About The Position

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer on Varda’s Flight Software team determines how the spacecraft behaves and operates in orbit and develops reliable software to make that happen. The role covers all phases of development, from requirements capture through testing and flight operational support. The engineer develops firmware for spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations and owns software design, testing, and integration.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
At least 5 years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
Experience developing and testing real-time embedded hardware/software systems.
Experience developing in C++ and a strong understanding of C++ language concepts.
Must qualify as a U.S. person permitted to access the company’s export-controlled technology without an export license.

Nice To Haves

Experience with safety-critical software, especially aerospace applications.
Experience with additional programming languages such as Python or Rust.
Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, and computer networking.

Responsibilities

Develop reliable firmware to control spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations throughout the mission.
Own all aspects of software development, including design, testing, and integration.
Scope projects by capturing requirements and conducting initial design trades for open-ended problems.
Write structured bare-metal, RTOS-based, or Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++.
Build highly reliable and available software systems.
Ensure system quality and performance using software testing, verification, and validation (V&V) techniques.
