About The Position

Del Medical is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to develop, improve, and support embedded systems used in medical imaging equipment. The role involves hands-on firmware engineering at the intersection of electronics, motion control, and real-time systems, with technical ownership extending from development through production. This is an in-office role in Bloomingdale, Illinois; it is not hybrid or remote. The engineer will work closely with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and product engineering teams. The position emphasizes embedded firmware and hardware-software integration rather than application-level software alone. It also supports prototype development, production troubleshooting, verification, reliability improvements, and ongoing product enhancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 7+ years of professional embedded software or firmware development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in embedded C and/or C++.
  • Demonstrated experience with bare-metal programming and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Hands-on experience debugging electronic hardware and firmware integration issues.
  • Experience with embedded communication interfaces and protocols.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently own technical assignments and deliver maintainable, reliable software.
  • Must be able to work in the office in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with motor control, motion-control systems, encoders, feedback loops, or real-time control.
  • Experience with medical devices, diagnostic imaging, industrial controls, or other reliability-critical products.
  • Experience with Altium Designer, PCB development, and electronic schematic interpretation.
  • Experience with RTOS development, firmware update mechanisms, automated testing, or hardware diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with medical-device software lifecycle, risk management, verification, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware using C and/or C++.
  • Develop bare-metal firmware for microcontroller-based systems and real-time applications.
  • Design and improve motion-control functionality involving motors, encoders, sensors, and actuators.
  • Implement and troubleshoot communication protocols, including CAN/CANopen, RS-232, I²C, SPI, and Ethernet.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers on PCB bring-up, electronic interfaces, and hardware-software integration.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and other diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve technical problems.
  • Develop software verification tests, investigate failures, and improve system reliability.
  • Document software architecture, interfaces, requirements, testing, and engineering changes.
  • Support prototype development, production troubleshooting, and ongoing product improvements.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and product engineering teams.
