Senior Embedded Software Engineer

CACI International•Tampa, FL
•$114,600 - $252,100•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer works on-site alongside intelligence operators and analysts using a government-owned, multi-source analytic capability. The role helps the capability perform at the point of use and brings observations about mission use, capability gaps, and future needs back to the team enhancing it. Its two functions are adoption and mission value—training, capability integration, workflow analysis, troubleshooting, and tradecraft support—and forward sensing through structured observation of use cases, friction, and unmet needs. The role is primarily focused on forward sensing. The engineer works directly with users to understand their mission, develop or integrate software solutions, support the fielded analytic capability, and document findings for the capability development roadmap. The position requires working at the supported mission location, potentially on extended or OCONUS assignments, and operating within contract scope, site security requirements, and the organizational-conflict-of-interest framework. Travel of up to 25% is required.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • 10+ years of operational intelligence experience in an analytic, targeting, collection, or watch-floor environment, or direct software development support to these functions.
  • Technical fluency with analytic tools, data systems, and their integration, including the ability to configure, troubleshoot, and adapt fielded capability with users in real time.
  • Ability to work independently at a customer site with limited direct supervision and exercise sound judgment in ambiguous conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including producing clear, structured observation reports for a technical audience and communicating critical information across geographically dispersed teams and time zones.
  • Willingness to relocate to, or work extended assignments at, the supported mission location, including OCONUS.

Nice To Haves

  • Polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, intelligence, or related discipline, or equivalent operational experience.
  • Prior assignment at a joint or combined operational headquarters, a national intelligence agency, or an equivalent operational intelligence organization.
  • Familiarity with geospatial, multi-source, or object-based analytic platforms and their data architectures.
  • Experience in a forward-deployed engineer, embedded technical support, or field engineering role in a classified environment.
  • Working knowledge of scripting or data-transformation methods applied to diagnosis and integration rather than standalone tool development.

Responsibilities

  • Work with on-site analysts to understand their mission and create software solutions that streamline workflows.
  • Design and develop software products that interface with enterprise software tools used by analysts to increase the intelligence value of available data.
  • Catalog generated software so it can be tracked and incorporated into an enterprise software baseline when required.
  • Develop working proficiency in the supported organization’s analytic tradecraft to translate operator problems into technical terms and technical constraints into operator terms.
  • Provide on-site integration, configuration, workflow automation, and troubleshooting support for the fielded analytic capability directly to end users.
  • Diagnose problems in place and commit to a resolution path within 48 hours.
  • Capture and document observed use cases, capability gaps, workflow friction, and unmet mission needs in a structured format, and report them on a defined cadence into the capability development roadmap.
  • Support connection of the enterprise analytic capability to adjacent mission systems and data sources at the site, within the fielded baseline and under the customer’s configuration control.
  • Coordinate local workarounds with the core development team for incorporation into the enterprise baseline rather than maintaining standalone local software.
  • Deliver hands-on training and best-practice support to users, sustain customer trust, and operate within contract scope, site security requirements, and the organizational-conflict-of-interest framework.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off benefit.
  • Learning resources and learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support, continuing education, and time off benefits.
