About The Position

Seagate is hiring multiple Senior Embedded Software Engineers in its Software Engineering organization, which develops embedded software for storage products. The role focuses on close-to-hardware software design for reliable, high-performance product behavior across Seagate’s storage markets. The engineer will design, implement, and integrate C/C++ embedded software changes for assigned storage-platform features or components. The work includes improving reliability, performance, manufacturability, and product readiness; investigating issues involving software, hardware, firmware interfaces, operating environments, and storage-system behavior; and supporting defect resolution from reproduction and root-cause analysis through corrective action and validation support. The position contributes to design and code reviews, debug strategy, defect prevention, and software-quality practices. It also involves communicating technical analysis and risks, collaborating with cross-functional partners, and sharing domain knowledge or providing informal guidance to less-experienced engineers. The position may be based at either the Longmont, Colorado or Shakopee, Minnesota campus. Travel is not required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field and 5+ years of experience, or a master’s degree in the same and 3+ years of experience, or a PhD and 0+ years of experience, or equivalent experience and education.
  • Strong foundation in operating systems, concurrency, memory management, data structures, algorithms, and computer architecture.
  • Proficiency developing embedded software in C/C++.
  • Experience debugging embedded, firmware, or system-level issues using structured root-cause analysis, instrumentation, logs, lab tools, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience contributing to design, implementation, integration, validation support, and release readiness in a hardware-dependent software environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with embedded operating systems, device drivers, storage systems, real-time software, low-level platform software, firmware interfaces, or hardware bring-up.
  • Experience contributing to modular design, interface definition, test strategy, build systems, CI/CD, static analysis, or software-quality tools.
  • Knowledge of HDD devices, storage protocols, system-level performance analysis, reliability considerations, failure modes, or storage-subsystem behavior.
  • Experience sharing technical knowledge, supporting debug efforts, collaborating across teams, or improving local engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and integrate C/C++ embedded software changes for assigned storage-platform features or components.
  • Improve software reliability, performance, manufacturability, and product readiness.
  • Apply computer science fundamentals, modular design, clear interfaces, and testable implementation practices to deliver maintainable software across products and releases.
  • Investigate and resolve product-development issues involving embedded software, hardware interactions, firmware interfaces, operating environments, and storage-system behavior.
  • Support defect and integration-issue resolution from reproduction and root-cause analysis through corrective action, validation support, risk awareness, and stakeholder communication.
  • Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, debug strategy, and defect-prevention practices.
  • Share domain knowledge, provide informal guidance to less-experienced engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional partners on technical decisions.
