About The Position

The Senior Electrician provides advanced journeyman-level installation, maintenance, and service of electrical systems. Responsible for the prompt performance of assigned electrical and related duties. Includes assisting the Supervisor in supervising semi‑skilled and skilled staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Electrical journeyman’s license
  • Seven (7) years of experience as a licensed electrical journeyman
  • Texas Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License
  • Three (3) years of acceptable driving history

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with NFPA 70, 101
  • Master Electrician’s License
  • Two (2)+ years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Experience on large university campuses

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the automated work order system, including issuing work orders, ensuring work completion, communicating with faculty and staff, and ordering materials.
  • Install and repair underground electrical conduit and wire for pole lighting and services, including digging trenches, laying out locations, repairing conduits, and tracing damaged wires.
  • Install new electrical services to buildings and extend old services, including removing old feeders, trenching, and pulling new feeders.
  • Remove and install new switchgear, and replace breakers in switchgear and panels.
  • Estimate costs for electrical work, requiring knowledge of electrical materials, building practices, and the National Electrical Code.
  • Install, maintain, and repair transformers, generators, control panels, switches, circuit breakers, outlets, fixtures, fittings, and accessories.
  • Perform demolition of existing electrical systems and installation of new electrical systems for renovation projects.
  • Assist the electrical supervisor in daily operations, including supervision, training, and mentorship of personnel, and the ability to assume the supervisor's role when absent.
  • Respond to on-call electrical emergencies outside of normal hours, including fires, outages, floods, and icy conditions.
  • Install new electrical systems for research equipment and assist other departments with troubleshooting and installation.
  • Assist with the installation of electrical systems for special events.
  • Pass and maintain yearly training, including electrical continuing education, hazardous communication, security, driver's education, first aid, asbestos, boom lift, scissor lift, bucket lift, NFPA 70, and forklift training.
  • Drive a UTA vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
