About The Position

Kett Engineering is seeking a Senior Electrical Test Technician to support a leading electric vehicle manufacturer in Irvine, CA. This role is ideal for a highly skilled hands-on technician with experience in electrical testing, diagnostics, prototype development, and engineering validation activities within a fast-paced R&D environment. The Senior Electrical Test Technician will support engineering teams in the testing, troubleshooting, repair, and validation of advanced electrical and electronic systems. This individual will perform component-level diagnostics, execute hardware verification testing, build and modify test setups, and support the development of next-generation vehicle technologies. The successful candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills, a deep understanding of analog and digital electronics, and the ability to work independently in a laboratory and prototype development environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting electrical testing, diagnostics, or validation activities.
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, microscopes, and other laboratory test equipment.
  • Proven experience with installation, maintenance, repair, testing, or troubleshooting of complex electronic systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic systems down to the component level.
  • Ability to identify failure mechanisms, determine root cause, and perform corrective repairs.
  • Experience working as an Electronics Technician, Engineering Technician, R&D Technician, or similar technical role.
  • Experience supporting hardware verification and design verification testing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong wiring and harness fabrication skills, including crimping, pin extraction, wire splicing, shielding, grounding, strain relief, and automotive routing practices.
  • Experience performing PCB rework, fine-pitch soldering, and hot-air rework on densely populated circuit boards.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity testing methodologies.
  • Experience testing and validating high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, and SerDes.
  • Experience working in automotive, EV, battery, or advanced technology development environments.
  • Associate degree, military technical training, or equivalent experience in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical testing, troubleshooting, and validation of prototype and production-intent electronic systems.
  • Support hardware verification and design verification activities for engineering development programs.
  • Diagnose and repair component-level electrical failures using engineering schematics and technical documentation.
  • Identify failure mechanisms, isolate root causes, and document findings for engineering review.
  • Operate laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and microscopes.
  • Build, modify, and maintain test fixtures, harnesses, prototype assemblies, and support laboratory equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data and results.
  • Assist engineers with product development, validation testing, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records and technical reports in accordance with engineering procedures.
  • Follow all laboratory, electrical safety, and quality standards.
