Electrical Test Technician

Base Power Company•Austin, TX

About The Position

Base is seeking an Electrical Test Technician to build and maintain the test infrastructure that enables teams to ship new hardware and software with confidence. The role turns engineering designs into physical test benches and fixtures, ranging from low-voltage signal harnesses to 240/480V power circuits, designed to operate continuously. As Base’s fleet grows, the technician will help increase test capacity and document builds so stations can be replicated quickly without redesigning fixtures from scratch. The technician will work closely with engineering to determine what to build, what to fabricate in-house, and what to send out for fabrication. The position is part of the Systems Integration team, which develops and maintains test infrastructure including hardware-in-the-loop rigs, test benches and fixtures, and the software, CI pipelines, and data tools used to run tests around the clock. The team works to identify hardware and firmware issues before they reach customers, reproduce issues in the lab, and help engineers ship products to the fleet. Base is a startup where priorities and responsibilities may evolve with business needs. The company works in person and describes its work as not being a 9-to-5.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience wiring harnesses, including cutting, stripping, labeling, and documenting work so another person can reproduce it.
  • Experience building a low-voltage signal harness from a schematic and building a 240/480V power circuit.
  • Experience designing or fabricating enclosures, mounting brackets, or racking systems.
  • Comfort using power tools and fabrication equipment.
  • A team-first mentality and goal-oriented approach, including taking on needed work and speaking up about priorities.
  • 1–3 years of experience in electrical work, fabrication, motorsports, aerospace, or a similar hands-on technical role; apprenticeships and trade training count.

Responsibilities

  • Build and wire test benches and fixtures, including signal-level harnesses and 240/480V power circuits.
  • Document each build so test stations can be replicated quickly as capacity increases.
  • Design and fabricate enclosures, mounting brackets, and racking systems intended for continuous operation.
  • Decide whether parts should be fabricated in-house or sent out, and ensure they are built correctly either way.
  • Keep test systems running and ready for engineering and automated testing around the clock.
  • Follow wiring schematics and apply the appropriate workmanship, safety, and inspection standards for low-voltage signal and 240/480V power work.
