About The Position

The Senior Electrical / FPGA Engineer develops prototype electronics and control systems for laser products and new laser platforms. The role designs, develops, and improves electronics for laser diode drivers, current sources, temperature-control systems, photodetector monitoring, safety interlocks, and system diagnostics. It also develops control and monitoring electronics for new laser architectures and troubleshoots electrical noise, stability, grounding, EMI/EMC, and reliability issues. The engineer develops and optimizes precision control loops for optical power, temperature, wavelength, current, and other critical laser parameters. The position develops FPGA-based control, timing, synchronization, signal-processing, and diagnostic functions; maintains, troubleshoots, and enhances existing FPGA-based control functions; and supports integration of FPGA and embedded control systems with laser hardware and higher-level system controls. It also develops prototype electronics for new laser concepts and experimental laser systems, designs controller and interface boards, sensor electronics, and power supplies, and supports integration and testing with optical and laser subsystems. This is an onsite role. It may require occasional off-site meetings or travel, occasional overtime, and flexibility in work hours. Regular computer and office-equipment use and interaction with team members and external contacts are part of the work. Employees must follow site and corporate EHS standards, attend required training, and use appropriate PPE. Depending on location, the role may also be responsible for executing and maintaining applicable quality and environmental management standards. The position is expected to adhere to Coherent’s ICARE values: Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Enthusiasm.
