Senior Electrical / FPGA Engineer

Coherent Corp.•Santa Clara, CA
•$66,500 - $89,813•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Electrical / FPGA Engineer prototypes and develops laser control electronics, FPGA-based control systems, and electronics for new laser platforms. The role designs and improves electronics for laser diode drivers, current sources, temperature-control systems, photodetector monitoring, safety interlocks, and system diagnostics, and develops control and monitoring electronics for new laser architectures. It also addresses electrical noise, stability, grounding, EMI/EMC, and reliability, and optimizes precision control loops for critical laser parameters. The position develops and maintains FPGA-based control, timing, synchronization, signal-processing, and diagnostic functions, and supports integration of FPGA and embedded systems with laser hardware and higher-level controls. It also designs prototype electronics for experimental laser systems, including controller and interface boards, sensor electronics, and power supplies, and supports integration and testing with optical and laser subsystems. The position is onsite and may require occasional off-site meetings or travel. Regular computer and office-equipment use and interaction with team members and external contacts are part of the work. Occasional overtime and flexibility in working hours may be required. Employees must follow applicable EHS procedures and standards, attend scheduled training, and use required PPE. Depending on location, the role may also be responsible for executing and maintaining applicable quality and environmental management standards. The role is expected to adhere to Coherent’s ICARE values: Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Enthusiasm.
