Senior Electrical Engineer, PCB Systems

Flagship Pioneering•Cambridge, MA
•$108,000 - $176,000

About The Position

Tilde Bio, Inc. is building a next-generation biological sensing platform that combines synthetic biology, protein engineering, nanopore biophysics, electrophysiology, signal processing, and machine learning. The company aims to create programmable biological measurement systems that extract rich molecular information from single-molecule interactions. Tilde is backed by Flagship Pioneering and brings together scientists and engineers from diverse disciplines to develop new approaches to biological sensing. The Senior Electrical Engineer will join a multidisciplinary engineering team and lead the design, layout, integration, and validation of complex PCBs supporting a next-generation proteomics platform. The role focuses on mixed-signal and high-speed PCB design, signal and power integrity, and system-level integration. The engineer will collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, bioengineering, and systems teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, high-performance hardware from concept through production.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of industry experience in PCB design and hardware development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multilayer PCB design for mixed-signal or high-speed systems.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, PCIe, DDR, SPI, or I2C.
  • Deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, grounding strategies, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
  • Hands-on experience with board bring-up, debugging, and laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience taking products from prototype through manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing electronics for scientific instrumentation, medical devices, or life sciences platforms.
  • Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and embedded processors.
  • Experience with high-density interconnect (HDI) design and fine-pitch components.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards such as CE, FCC, or IEC.
  • Experience working in early-stage or startup environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex, multilayer PCBs for advanced instrumentation systems.
  • Architect mixed-signal, high-speed, and low-noise circuit designs, including analog front ends, power management, data acquisition, and embedded processing systems.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers and external vendors to support hardware-software integration and instrument development.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including schematics, layout files, validation reports, and specifications.
  • Drive design reviews and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-testability (DFT) best practices.
  • Contribute to intellectual property generation and technical strategy discussions.
