PCB Electrical Engineer III

BLUE ORIGIN•Seattle, WA
•$130,706 - $182,988

About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a PCB Electrical Engineer III to support the development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. As part of a small team, this role is responsible for avionics controller hardware architecture for spaceflight systems and contributes across avionics product development, including architectural definition and hardware and software design and verification. The position calls for technical leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute to innovative solutions in fast-paced and uncertain environments, with a commitment to safe, repeatable human spaceflight. The engineer develops avionics boards and integrated assemblies throughout the product lifecycle, from concepts and requirements through design, prototyping, verification, and production release. The work includes analog and digital boards that interface with avionics systems, sensors, and electromechanical or electrohydraulic actuators, as well as architecture studies, analyses, performance characterization, device selection, and controller roadmap direction. The role also supports safety, mission assurance, risk analysis, failure investigation, and avionics development process improvements. The position requires an undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field and at least seven years of direct electronics hardware development experience. The stated base pay range for Washington applicants is $130,706.00–$182,987.70; ranges at other sites may differ. Applicants must meet the stated U.S. citizenship or immigration-status eligibility requirements. A standard background check is required, with additional checks or credentials applying to certain job profiles.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of direct experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Hands-on experience developing sophisticated commercial or aerospace electronic assemblies, including designing custom cards or integrating COTS hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, debugging, signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout.
  • Exposure to analog and digital filters, signal conditioning, and signal processing using discrete components.
  • Familiarity with using combinational and sequential logic computational devices to supervise sensors and control actuators, including design, development, and verification.
  • Strong organization and technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in a related engineering or technical field and at least 10 years of direct electronics hardware development experience.
  • Expertise designing high-reliability, safety-critical Class 2/3 board assemblies, including familiarity with IPC 6xx and NASA-STD-8739.n or similar standards.
  • Proficiency with Altium, Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, or similar tools for complex aerospace board design, and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors.
  • Exposure to designing safety-critical or otherwise critically important aerospace flight hardware aligned with DO-254.
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant or radiation-hardened flight hardware for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop avionics hardware, including boards and integrated assemblies, across the product lifecycle: concept and requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification, and release to production.
  • Develop analog and digital boards that interface with avionics systems, sensors, and electromechanical or electrohydraulic actuators, including analysis, schematic capture, layout, design review, testing and verification, and production release.
  • Support avionics architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specification, device selection, and controller roadmap direction.
  • Support risk analyses, failure modes, effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
  • Participate in program-level technology development, mission assurance and safety initiatives, and avionics development process improvements.
