Electrical Engineer (PCB & Power Systems)

SCEYE INC•Moriarty, NM
•Onsite

About The Position

Sceye is seeking a proactive, hands-on Electrical Engineer to lead the design, architectural verification, and integration of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and power systems for high-altitude platforms. The role focuses primarily on PCB design and engineering verification, including layout architecture, creepage and clearance calculations, and design validation to prevent high-voltage arcing and short circuits. The engineer will use PCB design software such as Altium and Eagle and take designs from schematic through fabrication, population, and performance testing. Alongside PCB development, the engineer will provide hands-on support for power-system integration by prototyping, building, and testing battery components; routing and soldering DC wiring; and assembling and testing solar modules. The role involves using standard hand and power tools and diagnostic lab equipment while following safety and quality standards. The position is based in Moriarty, New Mexico, is full-time, and reports to the Senior Power Systems Engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of professional engineering experience in PCB design, power electronics, or hardware engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency with PCB design software such as Altium and Eagle; listed as required.
  • Experience taking a board from schematic to a physical, fully populated prototype; coordinating with external PCB fabrication and assembly houses is acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage constraints, electrical clearances, and IPC manufacturing standards.
  • Hands-on ability and willingness to build designs, including soldering, wiring, and prototyping.
  • Proficiency with engineering drawings and schematics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-voltage DC systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), or solar integrations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in hands-on DIY and hardware fabrication.
  • Experience in an aerospace, aviation, or fast-paced R&D environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end PCB design using Altium and/or Eagle, from schematic capture and component selection through board layout and routing.
  • Calculate and verify creepage clearances, trace spacing, and thermal resistance to mitigate quality risks, including arc potential in high-altitude environments.
  • Oversee PCB fabrication and component population, either through hands-on assembly or coordination with external PCBA vendors, and test designs to validate performance.
  • Identify design-for-manufacturing constraints and collaborate with the engineering team on modifications to improve reliability and manufacturability.
  • Prototype, build, and test battery components, including battery module configurations.
  • Engineer and execute safe DC wiring routes, perform precision soldering, and integrate electrical components.
  • Support hardware assembly, system integration, and basic power testing of solar modules.
  • Use standard hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic lab equipment to assemble hardware while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Benefits

  • Chef-prepared onsite lunches.
  • Snacks and refreshments available throughout the day.
  • Access to a gym, pickleball court, and outdoor dog kennel.
  • Dog-friendly workplace.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance, with over 82% of premiums covered and 100% coverage for everything else, as stated in the posting.
  • 401(k) with company match; company contributions are yours from day one.
  • Collaborative, inclusive work environment.
