About The Position

Perform advanced transmission system analyses that may include the following types of studies: steady-state power flow, short circuit, transient stability, voltage stability, and transfer capability. This position requires a Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the State of Texas.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • A Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas is required or another state and active pursuit of a license in Texas can be substituted for the degree.
  • Requires a minimum of five years of electric utility or power engineering experience that includes performing engineering calculations and/or design.
  • Performs advanced transmission system analyses that may include the following types of studies: steady-state power flow, short circuit, transient stability, voltage stability, and transfer capability
  • Requires a Professional Engineer’s license in the State of Texas or a license from another state and the active pursuit of a P.E. License in the state of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power flow studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
  • Perform short circuit studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
  • Perform stability studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
  • Update power flow models to reflect changes in topology, resources and load.
  • Represent CenterPoint Energy on applicable ERCOT and NERC working groups, user groups and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable NERC standards, produce compliance reports and participate in audit activities.
  • Work cooperatively and jointly with other departments within the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
