About The Position

The Senior Director – Regional Hospital Laboratory Services, oversees all clinical laboratory operations at assigned regional hospital laboratory locations and ensures that the quality services of the laboratory are meeting the needs of the physician and administrators of the hospitals. As a member of the Senior Leadership team, this individual is committed to the overall success of the organization and understands their specific role in support of companywide initiatives to drive the mission and vision of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science
  • ASCP certification
  • Extensive clinical laboratory required
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated success and experience in positions of progressively increasing responsibility
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities in the areas of budget management, inspection readiness, policy and procedure creation, laboratory safety, policy enforcement, conflict resolution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound reasoning ability and independent judgment.
  • Ability to work within specified deadlines and timetables and handle
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Ability to establish work priorities and manage several procedures simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare or Business Administration preferred.
  • Hospital laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the daily operations of the laboratories meet the needs of each facility and the CompuNet system of laboratory operations.
  • Oversee technical and lab support operations in the hospital laboratory locations, coordinating services between those locations and other CompuNet entities.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization by communicating hospital and CompuNet strategic goals and promoting activities to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Maintain an onsite leadership presence at each location as applicable.
  • Support the President / Chief Operating Officer and the Executive team to ensure laboratory services across CompuNet, Premier Health and other health care entities to meet the needs of providers, administrators and patients.
  • Drive and support CompuNet Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Assist in the general management of the company through participation with Executive Team members, pathologists, project work and collaboration with other functional units.
  • Participate as part of the CompuNet Management Team, attending appropriate meetings and participating in various committees and teams. Initiate hospital-based teams and projects as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the CompuNet Senior Leadership Team, attending appropriate meetings and participating in various committees and teams. Initiate teams and projects as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Premier Health Leadership Team, attending appropriate meetings, leadership development and participating in various committees and teams.
  • Serve as a liaison between CompuNet and hospital leadership, and other assigned locations as applicable, participating as part of the hospital’s management teams, supplementing and assisting the local lab leadership team.
  • Participate in applicable facility/system oversight committees, including hospital leadership, regulatory/TJC, emergency management, quality, point of care needs, provision of care, clinical specialty committees such as stroke, sepsis, and trauma, system committees as needed, and school services.
  • Facilitate and support diversity and inclusion within the CompuNet teams.
  • Coordinate and support the placement of students in the laboratory.
  • Support, develop and maintain positive relationships with local high school and colleges to assist in building the workforce of the future.
  • Support professional development of direct reports and laboratory leadership of the future.
  • Develop policies and procedures in conjunction with laboratory leadership to enhance operations for efficiency and optimal specimen and result flow.
  • Continually work towards standardization of hospital processes to enhance operations of the lab system.
  • Oversee the physical workplaces of the applicable locations, to help provide a safe, clean and pleasant workplace. Utilize appropriate resources for maintaining facilities.
  • Facilitate logistics for CompuNet’s employees to work throughout the CompuNet system.
  • Review timekeeping system data on a regular basis, submit completed payroll records on time and manage overtime, as needed.
  • Prepare operating and capital budgets, within both CCL and applicable hospital locations. Oversee and assist in managing expenses and variance reporting on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide clear, consistent communication to laboratory management, staff and pathologists through regularly scheduled meetings, memos, bulletin boards and personal communication.
  • Provide input to System Intranet provider (Sharepoint) for hospitals services to maintain and keep up to date the publicized lab information.
  • Engage employees to provide a motivated and dedicated workforce. Assist managers in efforts to achieve and maintain employee engagement.
  • Communicate the organization’s strategic goals and promote activities to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and corrective action, as necessary. Support and assist with development of corrective action and/or action planning in relation to personnel issues.
  • Collaborate in the development of quality and safety procedures as needed based on CompuNet and hospital policies; enforce all company, hospital, compliance and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate quality assurance activities, collect pertinent data, troubleshoot issues that affect workflow or operations, facilitate improvement activities; measure the effectiveness of laboratory operations and report results to the hospital administration and quality oversight committees as applicable.
  • Facilitate communication with internal and external customers, including pathologists, hospital-based physicians, hospital administration and nursing staff; support and promote all customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Write, revise, and implement site-specific procedures consistent with the CompuNet Quality Program to ensure that the laboratory meets the requirements of CLIA, CAP and other applicable regulatory organizations.
  • Provide consultation on technical matters to the hospital, the business community and industry as needed.
  • Ensure readiness for accreditation and inspection visits by regulatory agencies, coordinate inspection applications, regulatory fee payments, and inspection day logistics.
  • Assist with lab billing questions and processes.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing other duties as assigned.
