About The Position

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director, Developer Telemetry to lead the Developer Experience (DevX) Telemetry workstream. The role will define a destination for software-development telemetry and a strategy for collecting the right information with appropriate privacy and security guardrails. By capturing fine-grained telemetry across the software development process and ecosystem, the role will help create a durable company asset for future analysis and decision-making.

The Senior Director will partner with stakeholders across Engineering, Machine Learning, Cyber, and Enterprise Data to build data products for developer use cases, model and token usage dashboards, and cost-optimization mechanisms. The role requires setting boundaries for telemetry and balancing comprehensive data collection with privacy and security principles. It also involves helping the organization progress from data-driven understanding to automated data-driven decisioning, and unifying fragmented telemetry into cohesive data products.

The successful candidate will define and measure outcomes such as flow and efficiency, quality, developer experience, ROI, safety, and legal compliance. They will weigh the value of collected data against surveillance, cost and complexity, false signaling, and compliance risks, and understand how to integrate data from code telemetry, infrastructure, on-machine tools, and human-agent collaboration. Product leadership is expected to reflect Capital One’s framework: human-centered, business-focused, technology-driven, integrated problem solving, and transformational leadership.

The position is available in Chicago, McLean, New York, Plano, Richmond, and San Francisco, with compensation dependent on work location. The role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in any field.
• At least 7 years of Product Management experience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience translating complex data strategy and business analysis into actionable data products or developer-facing tools.
• Deep expertise in software development life cycle (SDLC) metrics, developer productivity tools, or AI/ML evaluation frameworks.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives and technical engineering partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Developer Experience (DevX) Telemetry workstream.
• Define a destination and strategy for collecting telemetry across the software development process and ecosystem, with appropriate privacy and security guardrails.
• Partner with Engineering, Machine Learning, Cyber, and Enterprise Data stakeholders to build developer data products, model and token usage dashboards, and cost-optimization mechanisms.
• Guide the transition from data-driven understanding to automated data-driven decisioning.
• Develop a strategy to unify fragmented telemetry into cohesive data products.
• Define and measure outcomes including flow and efficiency, quality, developer experience, ROI, safety, and legal compliance.
• Balance the value of captured data against surveillance, cost and complexity, false signaling, and compliance risks.
• Integrate telemetry and other data from code, infrastructure, on-machine tools, and human-agent collaboration.
• Lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational alignment while delivering customer-focused product outcomes.
