Genworth | CareScout is undergoing a multi-year modernization of its insurance platforms, data ecosystem, and technology capabilities to support long term growth, operational excellence, and a more human-centered future. The Senior Director, Operations Technology is a transformational technology leader who will shape and deliver the end-to-end operations technology strategy, technology platforms, services, and processes that support the end-to-end lifecycle of Genworth |CareScout’s business operations, spanning claims, customer service, case management, and call center capabilities. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, Insurance and Business Operations, this executive serves on the Engineering, Insurance, and Business Operations Leadership Team acting as a trusted partner to Operations, CareScout Insurance, Risk, Legal, and other IT leaders.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, platform development, or enterprise technology leadership, delivering at scale in insurance, financial services, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Proven track record modernizing complex, mission-critical platforms and leading large-scale transformations, including cloud migrations, digital platforms, integration ecosystems, core system renewal, and legacy-to-modern transitions.
  • Broad technical expertise across applications, data, infrastructure, cloud platforms, security, integration, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience managing large technology budgets, capital planning, and vendor relationships with disciplined financial stewardship.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and develop large, multidisciplinary technology organizations focused on talent development, succession planning, scalable delivery, and high performance.
  • Demonstrated success navigating matrixed organizations, influencing without authority, and driving outcomes across complex stakeholder groups.
  • Strong executive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and align diverse audiences.
  • Strategic, outcomes-driven leader able to translate complex, multi-platform technology environments into roadmaps tied to business results.
  • Fluent in modern data, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities, with sound judgment to apply them where they create measurable customer, associate, and business value.
  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, balancing modernization investments with the stability, reliability, and performance of day-to-day claims and policy operations.
  • Ability to travel, approximately 25%

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in insurance or financial services, particularly in life insurance, long-term care, annuities, or property & casualty.
  • Knowledge of insurance business processes, regulatory frameworks, and enterprise risk management, including state insurance departments, NAIC, SOX, and privacy regulations.
  • MBA or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with SAFe, Agile, or product-oriented delivery models in architecture-governed environments.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, CMDB, and IT portfolio management tools.
  • Experience with aging services, healthcare-related technology, or direct-to-consumer digital platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Set and own the operations technology vision and technology strategy, architecture, and investment roadmap for platforms that enable business outcomes for operations, inclusive of customer service, claims, call center and digital solutions in alignment with business objectives and the Future-Proof Technology strategy.
  • Advance modern engineering practices across microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms, DevSecOps/CI/CD, reliability engineering, and platform operations.
  • Apply hands-on expertise in Azure/AWS cloud platforms, containers, and observability to strengthen platform reliability, scalability, and operational performance.
  • Lead the shift from legacy, fragmented platforms to governed, cloud-based data and analytics capabilities that improve operational insight, decision-making, and business performance.
  • Translate enterprise modernization priorities into a concrete, actionable Operations Technology plan.
  • Build, lead, and scale a world-class engineering organization, attracting and retaining top talent across Operations Technology.
  • Develop and mentor the next generation of Operations Technology leaders, building deep bench strength and a clear succession pipeline.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and business‑aligned decision‑making that reflects Genworth’s values: Make it human, Make it about others, Make it happen, Make it better.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering, integration, delivery, AI, and automation practices that improve efficiency, customer engagement, and associate experience.
  • Digitize business operations to improve customer experiences and streamline technology across customer service, claims, call center, and digital solutions.
  • Modernize legacy environments by migrating them to cloud-ready, API-enabled, modular platforms.
  • Digitize invoices and claims documentation to improve payment efficiency and enable deeper downstream analytics.
  • Deliver workforce engagement tools that improve associate productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Expand automation and straight-through processing to reduce manual effort, cycle times, and unit costs.
  • Serve as the primary technology partner to Operations, translating strategy into executable roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
  • Co-create business cases and value propositions for platform investments that drive continuous improvement and added value for customers and Operations associates.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior and executive leaders, translating business priorities into practical technology solutions.
  • Align technology investments with enterprise data, architecture, cybersecurity, and engineering standards.
  • Represent Operations Technology in governance forums and planning cycles, while reporting modernization progress to senior and executive leadership.
