Maze TherapeuticsSouth San Francisco, CA
$270,000 - $330,000Hybrid

About The Position

As our Senior Director, Information Technology, you’ll report to the SVP, Technology & Business Operations and lead the strategy, operations, security, and evolution of Maze’s enterprise technology environment. This is a role for a leader who can balance strategy with hands-on execution. You’ll lead our internal IT team while evolving our operating model with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and strategic partners to deliver reliable, secure, and responsive technology services. As Maze advances its clinical programs and prepares for increasingly complex global development, you’ll ensure our technology environment can scale with the business. You’ll partner across Clinical, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, HR, Research, Informatics, and other functions to modernize how we work, strengthen cybersecurity, improve the employee technology experience, and help expand the use of AI and automation across the company. This position is based in our South San Francisco headquarters and requires onsite presence a minimum of three days per week.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years in technology leadership.
  • Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or another highly regulated environment; clinical-stage and public-company experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise IT in a cloud-first, SaaS-based environment.
  • Experience managing MSPs and strategic technology partners.
  • Strong cybersecurity, business continuity, disaster recovery, and compliance experience.
  • Familiarity with SOX, GDPR, GxP, GAMP 5, and computer system validation.

  • Experience improving operations through automation and emerging technologies, including AI.
  • Strong business judgment, communication skills, and ability to partner effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change while remaining hands-on when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • You’re a technology leader who enjoys building strong teams, improving operations, and solving business problems.
  • You can move comfortably between strategy and execution, know how to get the best from MSPs without outsourcing accountability, and believe IT should be a trusted partner that makes the company more secure, productive, and effective.
  • You bring curiosity about emerging technologies and AI, balanced with strong judgment around security, privacy, compliance, and business value.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Maze’s enterprise IT strategy and roadmap aligned with business growth, clinical development, security, and compliance needs.

  • Establish clear roles, accountability, service expectations, and ways of working between internal IT leaders, MSPs, and strategic technology partners.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Maze’s IT leadership team, building trust, collaboration, and shared accountability across IT Operations, Infrastructure, and Helpdesk.
  • Manage vendor performance, service quality, escalation, cost, and continuous improvement while ensuring Maze retains ownership of technology strategy, security, risk, and business outcomes.
  • Create a service-oriented culture where internal teams and external partners operate as one IT organization focused on delivering an exceptional employee experience.
  • Remain close enough to the technology and operations to identify issues, remove roadblocks, and guide the team effectively.
  • Develop and execute Maze’s cybersecurity strategy and multi-year roadmap, maturing capabilities across identity, endpoints, networks, SaaS applications, data protection, monitoring, third-party risk, and incident response.
  • Improve Maze’s ability to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
  • Maintain strong disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response capabilities.
  • Support SOX, GDPR, audits, access controls, and applicable GxP and computer system validation requirements.
  • Build trusted partnerships across Clinical Development, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, HR, Research, Drug Discovery, and Technical Operations.
  • Establish a proactive IT business-partnership model that anticipates functional needs, identifies opportunities to improve how teams work, and translates those needs into the technology roadmap.
  • Support the technology needs of global clinical development and external partners, including CROs and other service providers.
  • Partner with business owners on the selection and implementation of critical platforms, including clinical, quality, and document-management systems.
  • Translate business needs into practical, scalable technology solutions.
  • Help lead the continued evolution of AI@Maze, enabling secure and responsible use of enterprise AI.
