About The Position

The Chief of Staff to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) plays a critical role in maximizing the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of the Digital and Technology organization. The successful incumbent drives day-to-day operational support for the CIO, including preparation for interactions, meetings, and presentations. They ensure the Digital and Technology organization's effectiveness through proactive planning, clear goals and objectives, effective prioritization, and appropriate briefings. This role anticipates and addresses key issues and opportunities, ensuring completion in a timely and effective manner. The Chief of Staff champions the adoption of AI-enabled tools and workflows within the CIO office and across the Digital and Technology Leadership Team's operating rhythm. They work in close collaboration with Communications, People Experience (PX), and Finance leads. This role oversees Digital financial strategy, including budget planning, fiscal discipline, and alignment to organizational priorities. Additionally, they lead and create strategy for the Digital and Technology early talent programs and manage teams for executive events and IT support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical or relevant industry, or 10+ years with a Masters Degree.
  • Deep understanding of business operations, including financial performance, to ensure that all communications are grounded in the company's strategic direction and performance metrics.
  • Strong analytical skills, especially in understanding financial statements and KPIs.
  • Strong narrative instinct: can distill a complex technical or organizational issue into a single clear through-line for an executive audience.
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI-assisted productivity tools (e.g., generative AI for drafting, research, and synthesis) with comfort evaluating and piloting emerging tools.
  • Familiarity with the Pfizer organization and ways of working.
  • Proven ability in managing day-to-day planning and operational and budgeting activities.
  • Experienced in communicating and interacting, verbally and in writing, with internal and external senior executive stakeholders.
  • Robust understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, R&D processes, and the external and internal business environment.
  • High energy level, sense of urgency, creativity, and decisiveness; ability to work hard and well under pressure.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Support and coordinate ELT and executive-level commitments of the CIO office.
  • Help address and coordinate resolution of requests from various Pfizer stakeholders (e.g., CEO's office, ELT members, Board members).
  • Interface with and engage key stakeholders (e.g., ELT Chiefs of Staff, Digital and Technology Leadership team, DBOs, and other Digital line leaders) to manage and coordinate operational and planning needs on behalf of the organization.
  • Oversee Digital financial strategy in partnership with the CIO and Finance Lead, including budget planning, monthly reconciliation, innovation investment oversight, cost-efficiency opportunities, and recommendations to meet financial commitments.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment in overarching processes and systems, where needed.
  • Ensure alignment between internal messaging and external communications.
  • Lead and support cross-functional enterprise initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Manage and oversee end-to-end planning of DLT team meetings. Define meeting agendas, coordinate pre-read and presentation materials, plan attendance of ad-hoc participants, and track meeting agreements and action items.
  • Identify, raise, share, and implement best practices.
  • Develop partnerships with key colleagues in other functional areas, ensuring ongoing alignment of goals and strategies and increased efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring Chief of Staff functions, such as reporting, budget tracking, pre-read preparation, using AI and workflow-automation tools, and lead pilots of new capabilities.
  • Oversee the Executive Events and IT Support teams, setting strategy, driving operational excellence, and advancing innovative approaches to deliver high-quality executive experiences and reliable technology support.
  • Manages and oversees the early talent programs for undergraduate students and recent graduates.
