About The Position

The Senior Developer leads the design, development, deployment, and continuous improvement of scalable web applications and enterprise solutions. The role provides technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, architects modern cloud-based applications, mentors development teams, and promotes engineering best practices using Python, React.js, Java/Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases, AWS services, and AI-assisted development tools. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on development experience, strong architectural expertise, and a record of leading technical teams and delivering complex client solutions. The position includes leading Python-based enterprise solution development, building and maintaining scalable applications and APIs, guiding Agile and DevSecOps practices, setting development standards, and coordinating technical planning and implementation. It also involves serving as a technical liaison to stakeholders, leading cloud application delivery and modernization, resolving complex technical issues, mentoring developers, and supporting project estimation and delivery planning. The role requires U.S. citizenship, the ability to pass a seven-year background check and obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Clearance, and willingness to work a hybrid schedule of one to two days in Reston, Virginia, with client locations in the Washington, D.C. area as required. Salary is $150,000–$170,000, based on pertinent experience.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
8+ years of professional software development experience.
8+ years of hands-on backend development experience using Python.
5+ years of hands-on frontend development experience using React.js.
Extensive experience developing enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.
Extensive experience designing and implementing microservices-based architectures.
Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
Strong experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or DynamoDB.
Extensive experience using AWS services including S3, EC2, Lambda, SQS, and RDS.
Experience leading development efforts within Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban.
Experience using JIRA and Agile project management processes.
Proven ability to lead software engineering teams and deliver complex technical solutions.
Advanced knowledge of object-oriented programming, software architecture, design patterns, database design, data modeling, and distributed systems.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and ability to engage executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
Proven experience translating business requirements into scalable technical architectures and solutions.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot for code generation, review, validation, optimization, and software delivery acceleration.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must be willing to work a hybrid schedule of one to two days in Reston, VA, and at client locations in the Washington, D.C. area as required.
Ability to pass a seven-year background check and obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Clearance.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and implementation of Python-based enterprise solutions that meet client requirements.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
Architect, build, and maintain scalable web applications, APIs, and cloud-native solutions.
Lead quality development practices, including test-driven development, code reviews, and application security standards.
Drive adoption of Agile and DevSecOps best practices across development teams.
Oversee code reviews and establish coding standards to improve code quality, scalability, maintainability, and performance.
Lead technical analysis, solution design sessions, user story creation, estimation, and implementation planning.
Guide Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Oversee technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, and development standards.
Design and implement solutions using object-oriented methodologies, design patterns, microservices architectures, database design, data modeling, and modern web technologies.
Serve as the primary technical liaison for technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Lead development and delivery of cloud-based applications and services using AWS technologies.
Drive troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex application, integration, infrastructure, and performance issues.
Mentor junior and mid-level developers through coaching, technical guidance, and career development support.
Use AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, to improve productivity, code quality, solution delivery, and engineering efficiency.
Lead application modernization efforts and recommend improvements to architecture, tooling, and development processes.
Develop project estimates and support project planning, delivery forecasting, and resource allocation.
