Senior Developer Advocate - Volcano

Kong
•$165,000 - $185,000

About The Position

Volcano is a cloud for apps built with coding agents, enabling tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex to set up databases, authentication, functions, storage, realtime features, and deployment. Incubated by Kong and operating as its own company, Volcano launched publicly in September 2026. This role bridges engineering and the developers Volcano serves: the Developer Advocate will build continuously on the platform, demonstrate its capabilities, and share feedback with the team to improve the product. The role owns the Volcano Cookbook and creates deployable templates, examples, videos, and other developer-facing content. It also involves community engagement, hackathons and sponsorships, partnerships with companies whose tools feature in Volcano recipes, and building workflows that help a small team publish efficiently without sacrificing quality. As “customer zero,” the advocate will find platform rough edges and provide actionable reports to engineers.

Requirements

  • Have built things publicly within the last year and be able to show what was shipped and how it was promoted.
  • Have 0-to-1 experience, such as starting a company, joining one early, or launching something from nothing.
  • Be technically capable and fluent with coding agents; able to build a working app with Claude Code or a similar tool, debug it, and explain what happened.
  • Write well, use AI in personal workflows, and recognize low-quality AI-generated writing.
  • Enjoy explaining technical topics to an audience, on camera, or in written discussions.
  • Be trusted by engineers for technical accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • An existing developer audience.
  • Hackathon organizing experience.
  • Experience with developer platforms such as Vercel, Supabase, Neon, or Cloudflare.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Volcano Cookbook, creating practical app-building recipes with code, design decisions, and gotchas.
  • Build templates and examples that people can deploy in one step.
  • Create videos, including YouTube content, streams, and short demos.
  • Run Volcano hackathons, participate in other hackathons, and evaluate worthwhile sponsorships.
  • Work with companies whose tools appear in Volcano recipes to create joint content.
  • Engage with developers on Discord, X, and GitHub, and bring their feedback to the team.
  • Build tooling and workflows that help a small team publish more while maintaining quality.
  • Use Volcano as customer zero, identify rough edges, and report issues in a way engineers can act on.
