About The Position

The posting lists the title “Senior Design Lead,” while the job summary describes an Inductive Automation & System QA Engineer. The role is based in an on-site Cupertino lab and focuses on building and bringing up automated test stations for wireless charging systems. It combines software automation with mechanical and CAD fixture design. The position involves designing and assembling custom test fixtures, creating Python-based test frameworks to control lab instrumentation, integrating physical actuators and stages with software test harnesses, and running automated charging, regression, and protocol tests. The engineer also characterizes defects across electromechanical, firmware, and software layers, documents findings, and works with cross-functional teams to resolve issues. Success means delivering functional, calibrated test stations and durable CAD fixtures; enabling reliable unattended overnight test execution with automated recovery and error handling; providing actionable bug reports with synchronized logs; and publishing test plans and reporting results promptly while surfacing technical risks to EPMs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience testing complex electromechanical or embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, such as NX, SolidWorks, or similar, for fixture and jig design.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, including 3D printing or light fabrication, and actuator/sensor integration.
  • Strong Python skills and experience building modular test frameworks from scratch.
  • Hands-on lab instrument control using SCPI, VISA, Serial, or USB.
  • Ability to isolate defects across hardware, firmware, and host software layers.
  • Ability to write test plans, manage regression runs, and communicate issues clearly in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with inductive or wireless charging standards, including Qi and Qi2, and USB-PD.
  • Experience with SQL databases and automated test telemetry or reporting dashboards.
  • Familiarity with Git and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) automation pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design fixtures, nest plates, and alignment jigs in 3D CAD; prototype them using 3D printing or machining and assemble them.
  • Architect and maintain modular Python-based test frameworks that control lab instrumentation.
  • Integrate physical actuators and stages with software harnesses to deploy reliable end-to-end test benches.
  • Run automated charge stability, regression, and protocol testing across inductive charging setups, including Qi, Qi2, and magnetic charging.
  • Root-cause electromechanical, firmware, and software defects; document findings and drive bugs to resolution with cross-functional teams.
  • Deliver functional, calibrated test stations and durable CAD fixtures on schedule.
  • Support robust unattended overnight test execution with automated recovery and error handling.
  • Prepare clear bug reports with synchronized electrical, mechanical, and system logs.
  • Publish test plans, report results promptly, and proactively surface technical risks to EPMs.
