About The Position

This is a limited term position. Incumbents may be re-appointed to additional terms. This position is open to both civilian and enlisted members. Position serves as a deputy director of the State Services Bureau. The incumbent is responsible for the effective management of the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division, Forensic Science Division, Grants and Community Services Division, Intelligence Operations Division, and 911 Administration. The incumbent administers and directs long and short-range planning, analyzes bureau activities, and evaluates innovative programs and procedures. The incumbent serves as a member of the department’s Leadership Team. This position has direct responsibility for the formulation and implementation of the Bureau’s mission, policies, strategic plans, directives, organizational structure, and for the direction of the Bureau’s staff. Represent the Chief Deputy Director and Director on committees, commissions, and task forces on national, state, county, and local levels. Serve as the Chief Deputy Director and Director’s primary policy advisor on inter-bureau and departmentwide issues. Serve as the liaison for the Chief Deputy Director and Director with other federal, state, county, and municipal agencies. This position is required to perform all duties in a bias free manner. The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience at the 17 level or above.
  • Passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
  • Attach a cover letter/memo addressed to Col. James F. Grady II.

  • Attach official college transcripts (if applicable).
