Senior Data Scientist - GEOINT | TS/SCI

Xcellent Technology Solutions•Springfield, VA

About The Position

XTS is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and advance the Maven program through imagery acquisition, imagery curation, and data transformation in support of model development. The role involves working with complex datasets to prepare and transform information for artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) model development. The Senior Data Scientist will work across geospatial formats, JSON, XML, and other file types, using Python and quantitative methods to clean, analyze, and interpret data. Through quantitative analysis and visualization, the role helps identify patterns, investigate inconsistencies, and turn complex information into useful findings. The work establishes a reliable data foundation for model development while accounting for assumptions, limitations, and potential changes that may affect how information is used.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.
  • One of the following education and relevant experience combinations: associate degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience; bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years; master’s degree and at least 5 years; or at least 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience working with AI/ML technologies and data systems, including understanding how data preparation and analysis support model development.
  • Experience with multiple file types, including geospatial formats, JSON, and XML, to interpret data structures and transform information while preserving what is needed for its intended use.
  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis, developing visualizations, and processing complex datasets to identify patterns, investigate issues, and support informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in Python and other programming languages for data cleaning and manipulation, including developing repeatable processes and addressing data inconsistencies.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings, assumptions, and conclusions clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to extract information from documents and make unstructured text available for analysis.
  • Familiarity with NGA analytic modernization efforts, including SOM, computer vision, automated collection, or automated reporting.
  • Experience applying data standardization best practices to improve consistency and enable data to be interpreted, combined, and reused.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and quantitative analysis to evaluate assumptions, assess uncertainty, and interpret evidence.
  • Experience with classification, regression, clustering, data reduction, or causal modeling, including selecting appropriate analytical techniques and understanding their limitations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Maven program through imagery acquisition, imagery curation, and data transformation for model development.
  • Prepare and transform complex datasets to support AI/ML model development.
  • Interpret and process geospatial formats, JSON, XML, and other file types while preserving information needed for its intended use.
  • Use Python and quantitative methods to clean, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis and develop visualizations to identify patterns, investigate inconsistencies, and produce useful findings.
  • Establish reliable data foundations for model development while accounting for assumptions, limitations, and potential changes affecting data use.
  • Communicate technical findings, assumptions, and conclusions clearly.

Benefits

  • Customizable healthcare plans, dental and vision coverage.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and 11 federal holidays.
  • Matching 401(k) plan.
