Senior Data Scientist - Intelligence Support (TS/SCI)

Xcellent Technology Solutions•Springfield, VA
•$110,000 - $118,000

About The Position

The Senior Data Scientist will support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) Maven program, contributing to imagery acquisition, imagery curation, and data transformation within the model development process. The role helps shape the data that models learn from by bringing together information from different sources, investigating inconsistencies, and assessing what may be lost or changed during preparation. Using programming, quantitative analysis, and visualization, the Senior Data Scientist will turn complex information into usable data and findings. The work spans geospatial formats, JSON, XML, and other file types, applying Python and quantitative methods to clean, transform, analyze, and interpret information. The position combines data science, software development, and analytic judgment to establish a data foundation for model development and help the team understand its data and any limitations requiring attention.

Requirements

  • Current active Top Secret / SCI clearance.
  • One of the following education and relevant experience combinations: associate degree plus 8 years; bachelor’s degree plus 7 years; or master’s degree plus 5 years; alternatively, 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies and data systems, and the ability to connect data preparation and analysis decisions to the model development process.
  • Experience working with multiple file types, including geospatial formats, JSON, and XML, to interpret different structures and transform them while preserving information needed for intended use.
  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis, developing visualizations, and processing complex data into insights.
  • Development experience in Python and other programming languages for data cleaning and manipulation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with natural language processing algorithms to extract data from documents and make information in unstructured text available for analysis.
  • Experience with NGA analytic modernization efforts, SOM, computer vision, automated collection, or automated reporting.
  • Experience with data standardization practices to create consistency across information from different sources.
  • Expertise in mathematics, statistics, and quantitative analysis to evaluate assumptions, assess uncertainty, and determine what evidence supports.
  • Experience with classification, regression, clustering, data reduction, and causal modeling.
