As part of Google's global controls team, the Senior Data Center Controls Engineer troubleshoots, manages projects, and maintains building management systems (BMS) and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS) in data centers. The role develops new processes and standards and advances controls engineering in support of reliable, efficient facilities. The position supports the design and improvement of data center infrastructure, ensuring compliance with codes and standards. It works with local control systems for mechanical and electrical components—including generators, UPS systems, switchgear, power distribution units, drives, transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and heat exchangers. The BMS is the primary control method for mechanical systems, while the EPMS primarily monitors electrical systems. The engineer develops project scopes, budgets, and schedules, oversees work from design through commissioning, supports maintenance and lifecycle operations, and coordinates with stakeholders, vendors, and facilities technicians. The role may require up to 30% site and lab travel. Pay is listed as $144,000–$208,000 USD, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
