About The Position

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) is seeking a Senior Data Analytics Specialist to work with teams tracking, analyzing, and reporting data for state and federal workforce programs. This role involves assisting supervisors and managers with data analytics projects, providing technical assistance, data reports, insights, and expertise. The specialist will participate in collaborative data efforts with internal ODJFS teams and external partners, serving as a subject matter expert on data governance, performance, and reporting systems. The position will provide programmatic data reports, analyses, and executive summaries to leadership, offering policy and operational recommendations. Example tasks include completing federal reports, managing large data files, providing training and mentorship, working with vendors to improve data quality, and developing predictive models.

Requirements

• Option 1: 60 months experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months in data analytics specified by the agency.
• Option 2: Associate core program in data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, industrial/systems engineering or related field AND 42 months experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months in data analytics specified by the agency.
• Option 3: Undergraduate core program in data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, industrial/systems engineering or related field AND 36 months experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months in data analytics specified by the agency.
• Option 4: Graduate core program in data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, industrial/systems engineering or related field AND 24 months experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months in data analytics specified by the agency.
• Option 5: 12 months experience as a Data Analytics Specialist, 66931, including 12 months in data analytics specified by the agency.
• Option 6: Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment.
• Advanced knowledge of data analytics, statistical methods, data science, data visualization principles, tools, and best practices.
• Integrating and analyzing data from multiple systems and platforms.
• Applying advanced statistical and analytical techniques (e.g., regression; correlation; cluster analysis; data quality; classification; data mining; machine learning; data visualization) to discover trends, validate findings, and support decision-making.
• Conducting data quality reviews to assess accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
• Knowledge of government systems and associated processes.
• Communicating complex information clearly to audiences of subject matter experts and non-subject matter experts alike.
• Problem solving, decision making, and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Track, analyze, and report data for state and federal workforce programs.
• Lead data analytics projects and provide technical assistance, data reports, insights, and expertise.
• Participate in collaborative data efforts with internal and external partners.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and directives related to data governance, performance, and reporting systems.
• Provide programmatic data reports, analyses, and executive summaries to internal stakeholders and leadership.
• Offer workforce performance and reporting-related program knowledge to support policy and operational recommendations.
• Complete federal reports for multiple grants, managing and cleaning large data files.
• Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to research and analytics colleagues and program staff.
• Work with program leads, case management system vendor, state monitoring teams, and the InnovateOhio Platform to validate and improve data quality.
• Assist in the design of state data collection instruments.
• Develop predictive and evaluative models to predict project, grant, and program outcomes and measure performance.
