About The Position

The Senior Data Analyst – Nursing Business & Operations is an operations-focused analytics partner who helps nursing leaders understand what the data means, why it matters, and how it can be used to improve performance. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong analytical thinking and a practical understanding of healthcare or nursing operations, staffing models, labor management, productivity, and financial drivers. Rather than focusing solely on technical reporting, this position requires someone who can connect workforce, financial, productivity, and operational trends to real-world decisions that support staffing efficiency, budget performance, workforce sustainability, and high-quality patient care. The analyst serves as a bridge between data and practice, partnering with nursing leadership to identify trends, evaluate risks, understand root causes, and translate findings into actionable operational strategies. Success in this role requires curiosity, business judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate insights clearly to both executive and operational audiences. The Senior Data Analyst works in close partnership with nursing operational leaders, finance, and HR to ensure accurate, transparent, and meaningful performance reporting. The Senior Data Analyst – Nursing Business & Operations plays a critical role in supporting nursing leadership through advanced analytics related to workforce management, financial performance, productivity, and operational outcomes. Reporting to Sr. Ops Program Director, this position independently develops data solutions that support safe, high-quality patient care and responsible resource utilization in a unionized, Magnet-designated environment. This role serves as an organizational subject matter expert on nursing data sourcing, workforce analytics, financial performance, and operational metrics. The Senior Data Analyst ensures data integrity, security, and compliance while transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform business decisions. The position also supports internal and external reporting requirements, including benchmarking and regulatory submissions to organizations such as NDNQI®, Magnet®, CHA, and U.S. News & World Report. The Senior Data Analyst works in close partnership with nursing operational leaders, finance, and HR to ensure accurate, transparent, and meaningful performance reporting

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a or business or healthcare (Required).
  • Requires deep functional knowledge with 4 – 6 years of related experience Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize large, complex datasets.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and data visualization tools.
  • Experience working with financial, workforce, payroll, staffing, and/or clinical (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare staffing models, productivity metrics, and labor management concepts.
  • Understanding of nursing operations and healthcare finance.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, automation, and dashboard development.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings for non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative, service-oriented mindset with discretion in handling sensitive workforce and financial data.

  • MHA or MBA in business or healthcare (Preferred).
  • 2-3 years healthcare & nursing experience operations experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze workforce metrics including staffing efficiency, skill mix, premium labor utilization, vacancies, and turnover.
  • Develop productivity models and labor benchmarks to support staffing optimization and workforce planning.
  • Conduct workforce forecasting and scenario modeling based on volume, acuity, and operational changes.
  • Identify trends, risks, and retention opportunities to support workforce sustainability.
  • Support Sr. Ops Program Director to prepare, monitor, and track performance against the nursing labor budget.
  • Produce monthly and ad hoc budget variance analyses, including root cause analysis.
  • Support labor expense forecasting, productivity targets, and year-end financial projections.
  • Assist with annual budget development, staffing plans, and productivity standard setting.
  • Translate financial data into clear, executive-ready insights for nursing leaders
  • Monitor and report on nursing productivity and utilization metrics (e.g., HPPD, labor cost per case/day).
  • Analyze census, throughput, acuity, and operational drivers impacting resource needs.
  • Develop dashboards and scorecards aligned with nursing strategic priorities and organizational goals.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives through data-driven analysis.
  • Prepare, validate, and submit required nursing and workforce data to national benchmarking and external entities.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and alignment across internal and external reports.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on benchmarking methodologies and comparative analysis.
  • Extract, integrate, and validate data from multiple systems (staffing, payroll, financial, and clinical systems).
  • Perform data profiling, source-to-target mapping, and quality assurance oversight.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, automated reports, and standardized analytic tools.
  • Troubleshoot complex SQL scripts and reporting solutions.
  • Ensure data governance, metric documentation, and compliance with security standards.
  • Act as a trusted analytics partner to nursing leaders, finance, HR, and operational teams.
  • Present insights and recommendations in clear, concise formats suitable for executive and frontline audiences.
  • Support special projects related to workforce strategy, operational efficiency, and strategic initiatives.
  • Educate stakeholders on data interpretation and promote self-service analytics capabilities.
  • Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and data governance standards.
  • Maintains high standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and security.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of nursing and organizational priorities.
