About The Position

The Customer Engineer is a customer-facing technical advisor and primary architect of the customer journey, bridging technical strategy and business value for enterprise clients. The role covers the full lifecycle, from pre-sales technical validation through onboarding, deployment architecture, adoption, renewal, and expansion. It sits within the go-to-market organization and reports to a Customer Engineering Leader. The Customer Engineer remains engaged after an initial agreement and carries a variable quota tied to new business and/or account growth. The position provides oversight and guidance for customer onboarding and implementation but does not execute the implementation. It includes designing tailored migration and onboarding plans, advising customer engineering teams on configuration best practices, monitoring customer health and telemetry, and helping ensure measurable business outcomes. The role also uses AI agents, large language models, and internal platforms to automate routine workflows, while contributing to technical education and enablement for customers and internal teams. The role is based in Montreal, Quebec, and requires travel of up to 20–50% within the assigned territory for customer meetings, conferences, industry events, and in-person team meetings. Candidates must have reliable personal or local public transportation for required travel. Applicants who reach the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a Cloudflare office or hub.

  • Excellent consultative, advisory, communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes for engineers and C-level executives.

  • Ensure proposals include a suitable solution deployment strategy involving the customer, a partner, or Cloudflare Professional Services.
  • Oversee technical onboarding and implementation as the customer’s primary executive and engineering contact, without executing the implementation.
  • Design migration and onboarding blueprints, including DNS migrations, Zero Trust rollouts, and WAF tuning guidance; advise customer engineering teams on configuration best practices.
  • Partner with Account Executives on discovery, demonstrations, onboarding, technical health, risk, and expansion strategy.
  • Monitor customer health scores and telemetry to support time-to-value, resolve integration bottlenecks, and reduce deployment risk.

  • Maintain trusted relationships with customer stakeholders throughout onboarding, maturity, renewal, and expansion; advise on architecture, AI control layers, security posture, and deployment confidence.
  • Identify deployment risks and integration bottlenecks early and recommend remediation strategies.
  • Use AI agents, LLMs, and internal platforms to automate routine tasks such as RFP and security questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, basic telemetry monitoring, and documentation.
  • Partner with the Enablement Team to design, build, and govern technical resources, including SOPs, architectural best practices, and technical guides; educate internal teams and customers.
