Senior Creative Technologist, Games GenAI

Netflix•Los Angeles, CA
•$250,000 - $370,000

About The Position

Netflix is seeking a seasoned Senior Creative Technologist with strong creative and design instincts for what makes games fun. The role uses generative AI as an instrument for creative exploration, turning promising ideas into playable, intentional experiences with a clear point of view on visual style, voice and tone, sound, and overall execution. The role explores game concepts, levels, and moments with GenAI tools, then shapes promising ideas into compelling gameplay. Projects include early-stage prototypes and proofs of concept with external partners, in-production titles, and internal experiments involving hands-on building and creative guidance for engineering teams. The position also collaborates with the broader Games GenAI team to evaluate and improve tools and pipelines based on their contribution to creative quality and iteration.

Requirements

  • Strong track record as a game director, lead designer, or similarly senior creative professional.
  • Shipped game experience in which the candidate owned or substantially shaped creative direction, such as visual style, narrative voice, sound, or overall execution.
  • Hands-on comfort building rapid prototypes using agentic coding tools, engine scripting, or no-code/low-code tools.
  • Hands-on experience building with GenAI models and technologies to create game experiences, including mechanics, content, or systems that otherwise would not have been possible.
  • Demonstrated creative judgment in identifying early whether a game or idea is fun, with specific examples of improving prototypes or products through creative decisions.
  • Experience directing multiple creative disciplines, including visual, narrative, and audio, and synthesizing them into a coherent creative vision under time pressure and with imperfect tools.
  • Comfort giving direct, specific creative feedback to internal teams and external development partners, including on ambiguous early-stage ideas.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain actionable creative feedback to engineers, artists, producers, and other cross-functional partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with external or third-party studios as a creative partner or reviewer.
  • Experience with agentic coding tools, such as Claude Code or Cowork, to build lightweight internal tools or skills.
  • Comfort generating quick directional prototypes and previz using tools such as Maya, Twine, Unity/Unreal, Figma, and Miro.
  • Sound or music direction experience.
  • Experience with rapid, small-form game prototyping rather than multi-year AAA production cycles.

Responsibilities

  • Build and iterate on playable game prototypes using GenAI-accelerated workflows, including agentic coding, generative image, video and audio tools, and level and narrative prototyping tools.
  • Design and prototype pipelines connecting generative AI APIs to DCC tools and engine-side systems, including the Unreal Python API, Editor Utility Widgets, and Unity.
  • Provide hands-on creative guidance to prototypes and in-flight projects across visual style and mood, voice and narrative tone, sound and music direction, and overall game feel and execution.
  • Translate creative intent into concrete direction, technical game design requirements, systems, and documentation that engineering teams can build against.
  • Partner with the Games GenAI team to identify which tools and pipelines are worth developing, based on whether they improve creative quality and iteration.
  • Work with external development partners and internal project leads to provide clear, opinionated creative feedback during early prototyping and proof-of-concept phases.
  • Run workshops, demos, and office hours to help other teams use GenAI tools for creative exploration.
  • Stay current on GenAI creative tools and assess them primarily for creative quality.
