About The Position

WEBTOON Entertainment is seeking a senior content programmer to shape how series are discovered, pitched, and sustained within its app. The role sits at the intersection of editorial judgment, readership data, and product, combining a strong understanding of stories and audiences with evidence-based programming at platform scale. The manager will determine where recommendation models and automated components are most effective, where human curation and tailored pitches add value, and how both can work together to create an engaging discovery experience. The position owns title lifecycle management, from launch through completion, with a focus on finding the right core audience for promising stories and growing their reach over time. It requires understanding narrative pacing and serialized reading behavior, developing audience-specific creative pitches, identifying programming opportunities through readership data, and testing and refining programming approaches. The role also works with product, data science, engineering, and cross-functional teams in the U.S. and Korea to improve discovery systems and the reader journey.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in content programming, editorial curation, merchandising, or content marketing for a digital content platform such as webcomics/comics, streaming video, music, publishing, or games.
  • Strong story analysis skills, including the ability to assess narrative structure, character appeal, tropes, and tone, and explain why a story works and for whom.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial judgment, with literary and cultural understanding and the ability to identify a story's core appeal and create compelling pitches.
  • Hands-on data skills, including defining segments, conducting cohort and retention analyses, and working with dashboards.
  • Proficiency in SQL or the ability to work independently with analysts on complex queries.
  • Experience running in-app or on-platform experiments and translating results into programming decisions.
  • Working understanding of recommendation systems and personalization, sufficient to collaborate with data scientists and identify where algorithms fall short.
  • Deep familiarity with U.S. readers and pop culture, including genre fandoms, romance and fantasy communities, and social media reading trends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with webcomics, manga, comics, web novels, or other serialized content.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM and customer engagement platforms such as Braze, including segmentation, in-app messaging, and push campaigns.
  • Strong AI literacy and practical experience using AI tools for content analysis, copy development, and data work.
  • Familiarity with monetization models for serialized content, such as pay-per-episode, wait-for-free, coins, and subscriptions.
  • Experience shaping product requirements for curation or discovery features.
  • Korean language ability or experience working with Korean teams and content.

Responsibilities

  • Map and manage the growth trajectory of series from launch to completion, finding core audiences early and expanding reach over time.
  • Identify the right timing to promote stories based on narrative pacing, including slow-burn plots and story flow.
  • Analyze series across genres, tropes, and formats to identify their hooks, emotional payoffs, and likely reader groups; match titles to specific programming goals.
  • Plan programming around scroll-based storytelling and weekly serialization, including cliffhangers, season breaks, hiatuses, and backlog availability.
  • Develop creative pitches for titles by selecting key panels, writing and directing in-app copy, and tailoring presentation to different audiences.
  • Build and maintain readership segments based on genre, trope, category, reading depth, and reading habits.
  • Identify programming opportunities such as underexposed series, cross-genre bridges, backlog revivals, and promotions timed to new seasons or completions.
  • Design, run, and analyze experiments on placements, creative, and copy, and translate findings into repeatable playbooks.
  • Define the respective roles of platform discovery surfaces, including recommendation models, new-release components, rankings, and personalized feeds.
  • Determine where human curation adds value, including editorial collections, launch support, seasonal and cultural moments, and tailored pitches for high-value or at-risk segments.
  • Design a cohesive reader journey that combines algorithmic recommendations and human-curated pitches.
  • Partner with product, data science, and engineering to improve recommendation inputs such as tagging, metadata, and cold-start strategy, and to shape new curation features.
  • Collaborate with content/editorial, localization, CRM, product, data, and creative teams in the U.S. and Korea.
