WEBTOON Entertainment Inc. (Wattpad & WEBTOON Family of Brands)•El Segundo, CA
•$125,000 - $175,000

About The Position

WEBTOON Entertainment is seeking a senior content programmer for its Content Growth Team to own how series are discovered, pitched, and sustained within the app. The role combines editorial judgment, readership data, and product expertise to help readers find stories that match their interests and to develop a scalable programming system. It focuses on on-platform curation rather than external marketing, determining how human curation and automated recommendations can work together to create an effective discovery experience. The manager oversees the growth trajectory of series from launch through completion, identifies the right audiences and timing for promotion, and develops creative pitches using selected panels and in-app copy. The role builds readership segments, identifies programming opportunities, runs experiments, and works with product, data science, and engineering to improve discovery features and recommendation inputs. It collaborates with content/editorial, localization, CRM, product, data, and creative teams in the U.S. and Korea.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in content programming, editorial curation, merchandising, or content marketing for a digital content platform such as webcomics/comics, streaming video, music, publishing, or games.
  • Strong story analysis skills, including the ability to assess narrative structure, character appeal, tropes, and tone and explain why a story works and for whom.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial judgment, with the ability to critically assess fiction, identify its core appeal, and write compelling pitches.
  • Hands-on data skills, including defining segments, building cohort and retention analyses, and working with dashboards.
  • Proficiency in SQL or the ability to work independently with analysts on complex queries.
  • Experience running in-app or on-platform experiments and translating results into programming decisions.
  • Working understanding of recommendation systems and personalization, sufficient to collaborate with data scientists and identify where algorithms fall short.
  • Deep familiarity with U.S. readers and pop culture, including genre fandoms, romance and fantasy communities, and social media reading trends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with webcomics, manga, comics, web novels, or other serialized content.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM and customer engagement platforms such as Braze, including segmentation, in-app messaging, and push campaigns.
  • Strong AI literacy and practical experience using AI tools to accelerate content analysis, copy development, and data work.
  • Familiarity with serialized-content monetization models such as pay-per-episode, wait-for-free, coins, and subscriptions.
  • Experience shaping product requirements for curation or discovery features.
  • Korean language ability or experience working with Korean teams and content.

Responsibilities

  • Manage series growth trajectories from launch to completion, helping high-potential stories reach core audiences and expand to broader segments.
  • Identify narrative pacing and the best timing to promote stories, including slow-burn series.
  • Analyze series across genres, tropes, and formats to identify their hooks, emotional payoffs, and likely reader groups.
  • Match titles to specific programming goals and audience needs.
  • Plan programming around scroll-based storytelling and weekly serialization, including cliffhangers, season breaks, hiatuses, and bingeable backlogs.
  • Select key panels and write and direct in-app copy, including titles, taglines, banners, push messages, and inbox messages.
  • Build and maintain readership segments based on reading interests, depth, and habits.
  • Identify programming opportunities such as underexposed series, cross-genre bridges, backlog revivals, and timing around new seasons or completions.
  • Design, run, and analyze experiments on placements, creative, and copy, and turn results into repeatable playbooks.
  • Map discovery surfaces, including recommendation models, new-release components, rankings, and personalized feeds, and define their roles.
  • Determine where human curation adds value, including editorial collections, launch support, seasonal and cultural moments, and tailored pitches for high-value or at-risk segments.
  • Design a reader journey that integrates algorithmic recommendations with human-curated pitches.
  • Partner with product, data science, and engineering to improve recommendation inputs such as tagging, metadata, and cold-start strategy, and to shape new curation features.
  • Work with content/editorial, localization, CRM, product, data, and creative teams in the U.S. and Korea.

  • Career development, mentorship, and support for learning and achieving professional goals.
