About The Position

Gartner is hiring a Senior Consultant, IT Strategy, based in New York or Chicago. The role works with senior leaders at client organizations to help shape, manage, and deliver technology value and define IT strategies. The consultant participates in strategic IT consulting engagements for a variety of clients, including IT benchmarking and general IT consulting, and delivers work within agreed timelines and budgets.

The position involves identifying and documenting issues and recommendations, conducting research and client interviews, presenting to executives and boards, supporting cost-benefit analyses and business cases for technology investments, and communicating engagement results to client management and stakeholders. The consultant also contributes to project management, quality assurance, and consulting and auditing methodologies.

The role requires at least five years of diversified strategic IT experience, a bachelor’s degree, strong analytical and communication skills, and willingness to travel up to 30%. Gartner describes a hybrid work environment, with flexibility to work virtually when productive and to meet with colleagues in person.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of diversified strategic IT experience across technology, organization, and processes.
• Consulting experience in a similar role at a professional services firm, or industry experience at a strategic or management level.
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
• Analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the capacity to consider out-of-the-box solutions.
• Flexibility and adaptability to respond thoughtfully to changing client needs.
• Excellent project management skills, teamwork capacity, strong work ethic, and willingness to work in a diverse international environment.
• Excellent written and spoken presentation and communication skills.
• Ability to articulate IT strategies and understand business strategies and their alignment.
• Ability to influence and build trust-based, value-added relationships with senior executives.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
• Receptiveness to coaching, best practices, and feedback as a means of continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

• Deeper knowledge of one or more of the following: IT strategy; IT organization and governance; enterprise architecture; IT/business process outsourcing; critical program management support (quality assurance, risk, or audit); IT performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Identify, develop, and document issues and recommendations using independent judgment concerning engagement areas under review.
• Conduct research, interviews, and presentations for clients, including executive and board-level audiences.
• Assist with cost-benefit analyses and preparation of business cases for technology investments.
• Coordinate and communicate engagement results through written reports and oral presentations to client management and key stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development of project management, quality assurance, and professional consulting and auditing approaches and methodologies.
• Participate in strategic IT consulting engagements, including IT benchmarking and general IT consulting, delivering within defined timeframes and budgets.
• Maintain senior-consultant-level expertise and currency in industry-leading information management technologies.
