About The Position

Epic Games is seeking experienced Character Artists to join the team working on Fortnite. The role creates high-quality characters for gameplay, cinematics, and marketing, including accurate likenesses of celebrities and music icons. Artists work from direction provided by the project Art Director, IP partner, and game design team, and collaborate on visual style while meeting Epic’s quality standards and production schedules. The position also involves developing alternate skins for approved hero characters and coordinating with teams such as Character Design and Modeling to ensure designs fit the project workflow.

Requirements

Experience designing slick, detailed, modern, forward-looking characters.
Ability to balance technical function and aesthetic goals while maintaining creativity.
Ability to work within gameplay design constraints and translate them into visuals that enhance the experience.
Experience creating mechanical designs.
Ability to prototype in 3D, work directly with 3D artists, and knowledge of 3D software and the latest technologies.
Strong traditional drawing skills and knowledge of human anatomy.
Strong understanding of color theory and how color affects mood and focal points.
Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
Experience with Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities

Create characters and likenesses based on direction from the project Art Director, IP partner, and game design team.
Collaborate on visual style based on the Art Director’s direction and ensure designs meet Epic’s quality bar.
Create compelling characters that help push the visual envelope.
Create and iterate on designs within a determined production schedule.
Create alternate skin designs for approved hero characters.
Partner with Character Design, Modeling, and other departments to ensure concept designs work within the project workflow.
