About The Position

Epic Games is seeking experienced Character Artists to join the team working on Fortnite. The role creates high-quality characters for gameplay, cinematics, and marketing materials, including accurate likenesses of celebrities and music icons. Artists work from direction provided by the project Art Director and IP partner, incorporating input from the game design team, and collaborate across departments to ensure designs meet Epic's quality bar and fit the project workflow. The position is open to multiple locations across the United States, including California, New York City, and Washington.

Requirements

• Experience designing slick, detailed, modern, forward-looking characters.
• Ability to balance creativity with technical function and aesthetic goals.
• Ability to work within gameplay design constraints, including environment scale, character abilities, and prototype function, and translate them into visuals that enhance the experience.
• Experience creating mechanical designs.
• Ability to prototype in 3D, work directly with 3D artists, and knowledge of 3D software and the latest technologies.
• Strong traditional drawing skills and knowledge of human anatomy.
• Strong understanding of color theory and how color affects mood and focal points.
• Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
• Experience with Unreal Engine.
• User-focused, passionate, solutions-focused, and innovative approach.

Responsibilities

• Create characters and likenesses based on direction from the project Art Director and IP partner, with input from the game design team.
• Collaborate on visual style based on the Art Director’s direction and ensure designs meet Epic’s quality bar.
• Create visually compelling characters that help push the visual envelope.
• Create and iterate on unique designs within a defined production schedule.
• Create alternate skin designs for approved hero characters.
• Partner with departments such as Character Design and the Modeling team to ensure concept designs fit the project workflow.
