About The Position

The College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Senior Career Coach to oversee career coaching for an academic department. This role provides leadership and strategic direction to support student career development, empowering them to engage in early career exploration and create meaningful career goals. The position aims to advance the core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students, ensuring alignment with the overall strategic goals and metrics of Career Success initiatives. The funding for this position is expected to continue until January 31, 2028, based on availability and performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in mentoring, coaching, career services, health professions, natural sciences profession, human resources, or a related field.
  • Experience leading groups, workshops, and delivering presentations.
  • Exceptional resume writing, interviewing, and job search skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Time management, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and excellent oral and written communication.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel including overnight travel, work some weekends and evenings.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with staff supervision and program supervision.
  • Experience working with or coaching natural sciences majors in higher education career services or a relevant natural sciences profession.
  • Experience or expertise with technical career paths.
  • Prior experience with corporate recruiting, managing internship and experiential learning programs, or other career-oriented opportunities.
  • Direct experience with university career services platforms including 12twenty.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee career coaching initiatives, focused on achieving the strategic goals of Career Success initiatives through career programs, alumni engagement, communications, course facilitation, and collaborative representation efforts of an academic department.
  • Supervise a team focused on career development opportunities for specific industries and fields within the academic department.
  • Provide ongoing training to the career coaching team and create and maintain training materials for new career coaches.
  • Play a leadership role in maintaining strategic partnerships and fostering student career development across the College of Natural Sciences.
  • Implement strategies to promote Career Success initiatives amongst all student populations.
  • Advise and assist students in their career search regarding their qualifications and transferable skills related to career pathways, opportunities, employment trends, and salary information.
  • Develop and utilize effective career search materials using best practices for neurodiversity and learning style differences for students seeking career information.
  • Collect and utilize occupational data and current labor market information.
  • Manage the collection and dissemination of information about employers and employment opportunities to students.
  • Plan and coordinate workshops and presentations for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Teach effectively and present to large groups on career-related and professional development topics.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and facilitation of courses for students in the College of Natural Sciences.
  • Provide administrative support for courses, including managing internship course applications.
  • Serve as the instructor and/or co-facilitator, develop curricula, and teach using best practices.
  • Grade assignments and manage student communications through Canvas.
  • Work with other staff members in the undergraduate department to create and facilitate programs to make career services a part of conversations in the college.
  • Educate and train staff, faculty, and student leaders in helping students to identify, articulate, and translate curricular and co-curricular experiences into career readiness competencies.
  • Update resource materials, communications, and website.
  • Create initiatives to promote the completion of the 12twenty career outcomes survey to recent graduates and currently enrolled students.
  • Analyze career programs and initiatives for effectiveness and provide data-driven outcome reports to the director.
  • Effectively translate the data of recent graduates to tell the career story of students within the academic department.
  • Support special projects and staff events within CNS.
