About The Position

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is seeking a Senior Business Development Coordinator to develop and implement strategies for loan production, including RLF and SBA 504 loans. This role involves utilizing a network of referral sources to meet loan objectives, packaging loan applications, and applying credit analysis skills. The coordinator will also lead community outreach efforts, build relationships with partners, and represent H-GAC at events. Additionally, the position involves developing external partnerships, researching funding opportunities, and planning/leading marketing and training events. The role requires providing expert guidance and technical assistance to small businesses, supporting the development of paid consulting services, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders. The coordinator will also analyze, problem-solve, and make decisions based on H-GAC policies, and develop/update business and marketing strategies.

Requirements

  • Experience as a loan officer or in business-to-business sales, business consulting, or business development
  • Experience in project management
  • Knowledge of small business lending and financing programs, including SBA 504 and RLF programs
  • Demonstrated experience in prospecting, cold calling, researching leads, and maintaining a disciplined follow-up system
  • Ability to read and understand financial documents including credit reports, tax returns, balance sheets, insurance documents, and bank statements
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, government entities, and economic development stakeholders
  • Experience planning and facilitating workshops, training events, or public-facing programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
  • 3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school, or in job-related duties

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience as a loan officer or in business-to-business sales, business consulting, business development for a financial institution or comparable industry, commercial real estate development, or as an entrepreneur
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with a Small Business Administration Certified Development Company
  • Experience evaluating loan applications, appraisals, and/or credit reports
  • Underwriting experience
  • Experience developing or delivering paid consulting or technical assistance services to small businesses
  • Established relationships with regional economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, or government partners in the Greater Houston-Galveston area

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies that generate a variety of loan opportunities, including local Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) loan programs and Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loans
  • Utilize a wide network of referral sources, including banks, CDFIs, and other lending partners, to regularly meet or exceed loan production objectives and grow the loan portfolio
  • Package loan applications and examine documents for completeness, accuracy, and validity from origination through closing
  • Apply sound credit analysis skills to vet loan applications, assign credit risk scores, and prepare and present credit approval requests for the loan committee
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date pipeline records in loan tracking systems, ensuring consistent documentation across all stages from lead to close
  • Lead outreach efforts to targeted communities, municipalities, elected officials, and business associations to generate awareness of H-GALDC lending programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, including economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, government entities, CDFIs, SBDCs, and industry associations
  • Represent H-GAC at community events, public meetings, and regional forums to expand program visibility and referral networks
  • Develop and manage an outreach calendar aligned with lending program goals and pipeline targets
  • Identify, pursue, and develop partnerships with external organizations whose programs complement or support H-GAC’s lending mission
  • Research funding opportunities, grant programs, and co-lending arrangements that could expand H-GAC’s capacity and program offerings
  • Represent H-GAC in collaborative initiatives with regional and statewide economic development networks
  • Plan, host, and lead marketing and training events related to lending programs and small business topics, including workshops, seminars, and information sessions
  • Provide expert-level guidance and coaching to prospective and existing small business clients, helping them improve business management, marketing, fiscal, and technical strategies
  • Deliver technical assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs to prepare them for the loan application process and increase their likelihood of approval
  • Support the development and eventual delivery of paid consulting services to business clients, including program design, service packaging, and client engagement protocols
  • Communicate effectively with team members, businesses, lending institutions, industry associations, government entities, economic development organizations, consultants, and other stakeholders to maintain relationships at the highest possible level
  • Analyze, problem solve, and make sound decisions based on H-GAC policies and procedures
  • Develop and update business and marketing strategies, and maintain hard copy files, electronic records, and information in tracking systems
