Senior Backend Software Engineer- (AI Platform)
About The Position
As part of Databricks’ AI Platform team, the Senior Backend Software Engineer will build the infrastructure substrate powering data apps, AI agents, model training and serving, and vector search. The role supports a high-visibility team working at the frontier of AI infrastructure, in close connection with research, product, and enterprise use cases. Databricks Mosaic AI helps customers bring AI into their organizations, and this team builds infrastructure for next-generation AI. The role may be based on one of several teams in the AI Engineering organization. The engineer will build infrastructure for offerings including MLflow, AI Gateway, Databricks Apps, Agent Framework, Agent Bricks, and Foundation Model APIs; improve the reliability, latency, and efficiency of distributed AI workloads; collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and machine learning teams; and shape how developers and data scientists build and interact with AI on Databricks.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering.
- Strong programming skills in Scala, Go, or Python.
- Experience with distributed systems, scalable APIs, or cloud-native infrastructure.
- Familiarity with service-oriented architecture, deployment pipelines, and system observability.
- Strong product and ownership mindset, with a focus on building the right solution.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with real-time serving, machine learning infrastructure, or GPU orchestration.
- Exposure to platforms such as SageMaker, Vertex AI, or Azure ML.
- Contributions to open-source projects such as MLflow, PyTorch, or Ray.
- Experience building developer platforms or internal tools that support AI workflows.
