About The Position

Wunder is seeking an experienced, intellectually curious, and creative Senior Backend Engineer to join their fast-growing company. This role involves working closely with founders, the product team, and finance and solar experts to solve problems and advance renewable energy. The engineer will focus on automating solar development, solar value evaluation, and loan servicing systems. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on challenging problems with a team of high-performing, effective, and sophisticated engineers who are dependable, ambitious, and supportive. The role is ideal for someone passionate about solving complex problems, obsessed with users (often teammates), and driven to fight climate change, rather than building typical consumer apps or SaaS products.

Requirements

5+ years of experience as a hacker/dev/engineer
Experience in designing and building high-quality backend systems
Understanding of Ruby on Rails, Hotwire, PostgreSQL, Heroku, AWS, and CircleCI
Ability to work on a high-output team and do the best work of your career

Familiarity with building systems necessary to facilitate assessment, development, and management of energy assets is ideal

Responsibilities

Writing, reviewing, and maintaining code primarily written in Ruby (Rails + Hotwire)
Developing and maintaining our CI/CD pipeline which allows our team to rapidly deploy well-tested code to production multiple times per day
Solving complex problems inherent to our domain with our unique blend of Rails’ best practices, functional principles, and service-oriented design
Working with our Product team to identify high-leverage solutions to help Wunder achieve its mission
Shaping our architectural philosophy and technical direction by exploring nascent technologies or problem spaces new to Wunder
Enjoying unallocated, flexible time for deep work, collaboration, or attending to the important non-work aspects of life (the engineering team has 5 hours of “no meeting zone” per day)
Establishing the way in which our team and processes evolve as Wunder embarks on its next phase of rapid growth
