About The Position

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to help automate and improve the build, deployment, and operation of NC FAST applications. The primary role is to lead automation efforts for infrastructure provisioning and application build and deployment activities. The position requires a solid understanding of AWS infrastructure and the software release life cycle.

The engineer will create and maintain Ansible playbooks, troubleshoot automation issues, ensure consistent and reliable deployments across environments, and collaborate with DevOps and application teams to improve CI/CD workflows. The role also works with IT management to improve software engineering processes and practices for continuous integration and continuous deployment of application changes. The engineer will interact with architects, developers, the deployment team, and database administrators to automate various tasks.

The position is hybrid and based at the RTP, North Carolina worksite. The employee is required to be on call during evenings and weekends as needed to meet business needs.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience automating Linux operating system and software patches and upgrades across multiple environments using tools such as Ansible.
• At least 6 years of hands-on experience with a Bitbucket or Git source code management tool, including branching, merging, configuring, and administering.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience automating build and deployment processes, including database changes, using tools such as Ansible.
• At least 5 years of experience developing automation scripts, operational utilities, and workflow scripts using Python, Bash, or Shell.
• At least 5 years of experience building and packaging applications with Docker and managing and scaling containerized workloads using Kubernetes.
• At least 5 years of experience in infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and environment management using Terraform and Ansible.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience developing and managing CI/CD (DevOps) pipelines using tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, and Ansible.
• At least 6 years of strong knowledge and understanding of Amazon Web Services and infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of the software release life cycle.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, Ansible Tower/AWX, YAML, automation best practices, and infrastructure-as-code principles.

• Experience debugging deployments, validating configurations, and improving release reliability.
