About The Position

The Senior Assistant Director for Community College Outreach plans and supports undergraduate transfer student recruitment, selection, and yield activities at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) and MassBay Community College (MBCC). This position combines transfer recruitment and academic advising to build clear pathways for prospective UMass Amherst students, with their primary office location split between the BHCC and MBCC campuses.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of experience working in admissions, advising, academic programs, or a related field.
• Ability and desire to advocate for the best interests and success of students.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strict attention to detail.
• The ability to balance the demands of concurrent projects and adjust priorities as needed.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse population of stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of transfer student barriers and challenges.
• Ability to travel and flexibility to work on weekends and evenings during recruitment travel season and application review season.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively with prospective students and their families, college/transfer counselors, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills, specifically with email, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• The ability to learn new technology, platforms, and tools at a moderate pace.
• Valid driver's license, proof of insurability, and ability to obtain a university credit card.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree, preferably in counseling, higher education, or a related field.
• Experience working with community college students in an admissions or academic advising capacity.
• Experience working as an admissions counselor or advisor for transfer or nontraditional students.
• Experience working with Slate or similar Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
• Bilingual ability.

Responsibilities

• Works from primary offices on the BHCC and MBCC campuses to ensure consistent in-person support for prospective UMass Amherst students; holds regular office hours and leads information sessions and classroom visits about the opportunity to transfer to UMass Amherst.
• Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director of MassTransfer Policy & Partnerships, executes special projects and programs to support the mission of the transfer admissions office, enrollment management, and the university. Develops resources and executes project plans, timelines, tasks, and objectives to support project and/or program success.
• Works with the Enrollment Management Communications & Events team to create specialized communications and marketing for BHCC and MBCC students.
• Tracks, monitors, and analyzes BHCC and MBCC cohorts and develops reports as needed.
• Provides clear and accurate transfer credit policy information to prospective students. Advises students on MassTransfer policy and other related state transfer programs.
• Assists the Senior Associate Director with articulation agreements.
• Advises prospective and enrolling transfer students regarding department, college, and university academic regulations, requirements, guidelines, and admission selection criteria, including guidance on competitive majors and concentrations. Maintains generalist knowledge of majors, departments, co-curricular opportunities, financial aid processes, residential life, and resources available to transfer students.
• Assists students in course selection, development of a transfer plan, and preparation for admission into an appropriate major.
• Reads transfer applications and determines admissions eligibility by evaluating academic and non-academic credentials based on established standards. Analyzes, makes recommendations, and participates in the decision-making process on candidates whose applications need further review.
• Cultivates professional relationships within BHCC and MBCC and serves as the primary contact for community college advisors and faculty. Represents the university at community college fairs, recruitment presentations, and campus visitor events.
• Identifies and supports the implementation of long-term recruiting goals and strategies, including innovative ways to recruit talented transfer students from BHCC and MBCC.
• Serves as the primary liaison between the BHCC and MBCC campuses and UMass Amherst to coordinate special programs.
• Keeps abreast of pertinent developments at the university, in higher education, and in the field of professional admissions work.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
