Senior Antenna Engineer

HENSOLDT•Enfield, CT

About The Position

The Senior Antenna Engineer is responsible for significant antenna design, modelling, development, testing and support work packages, as well as supporting radar systems analysis and aspects of RF design and modelling. The role leads antenna research and development; maintains antenna designs, design and test methodologies, and design data; and supports product improvements and obsolescence management. It also oversees requirements and specifications derivation and verification and validation requirements. The engineer provides technical support to the Algorithm Research team and to Systems, Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, suppliers and customers. The role supports antenna and RF designs, production test facilities and methodologies, and manufacturing issue resolution through technical response, trend analysis and root cause analysis. It ensures engineering procedures are followed and quality is maintained through design and manufacture; generates estimates and plans; manages antenna-related work packages; and maintains adequate documentation. Other tasks associated with the role may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience in printed and waveguide antenna design and development at microwave frequencies, including practical design aspects and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with RF component design and/or selection, including rotary joints, RF filters, splitters and combiners.
  • Experience in antenna system design using software modelling packages.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analysers and vector network analysers.
  • Knowledge of antenna theory, design and testing, including array antennas, slotted arrays and printed antennas.
  • Knowledge of design for test and design for manufacture.
  • Experience in a production environment, with a good understanding of processes such as near-field scanning, compact ranges and anechoic chambers.
  • Self-motivated and able to work within a team.
  • Good written and verbal English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of high-power RF amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, limiters, circulators, filters, mixers and phase-locked loops, particularly modelling to support RF engineers in simulation.
  • Familiarity with antenna design software.
  • Familiarity with Altair RF and antenna design software.
  • Working knowledge of radar or closely related applications.
  • Knowledge of adjacent fields such as radar systems modelling.
  • Experience with requirements management and/or systems engineering disciplines.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python and AI.
  • Knowledge of EMC regulatory compliance, such as FCC, ITU or ETSI requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively lead antenna research and development.
  • Maintain antenna designs, including design and test methodology and design data, for product improvements and obsolescence management.
  • Oversee the derivation of requirements and specifications, and verification and validation requirements.
  • Provide technical support to the Algorithm Research team, Systems and Hardware Engineering teams, Supply Chain, Quality, suppliers and customers.
  • Support antenna and RF designs, and antenna production test facilities and methodologies.
  • Support manufacturing by responding to technical issues and undertaking trend analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure engineering procedures are followed and quality is maintained through design and manufacture.
  • Generate estimates and plans, and manage antenna-related work packages.
  • Ensure adequate documentation is maintained.
  • Perform other tasks associated with the role.
