About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a Senior Accounting Assistant for the Cashier’s Office. This role involves auditing, collecting, and posting tuition and fee payments from students, as well as processing departmental deposits. The position will specialize in one of three areas: Nevada National Guard Waiver Specialist, Chapter 33 Specialist, or Graduate Assistant Specialist. Key responsibilities include verifying the accuracy and compliance of accounting documents, posting payments to student and departmental accounts, researching and analyzing data from the student information system, answering account-related questions, printing statements, maintaining and balancing the cash drawer daily, responding to inquiries via phone, and providing training and leadership to student workers and temporary hourly employees. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Three (3) or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word in a business setting.

Responsibilities

  • Audit, collect, and post all tuition and fee payments from UNR students.
  • Process NSHE departmental deposits.
  • Specialize in one of the following processes: Nevada National Guard Waiver Specialist; Chapter 33 Specialist and Graduate Assistant Specialist.
  • Verify and audit accounting documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with NSHE and federal rules and regulations.
  • Post accounting documents and/or payments to student and departmental accounts and provide receipts to customers.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret data from the student information system.
  • Provide answers to account questions.
  • Print statements and analysis records for current and/or past students.
  • Conduct maintenance and daily balancing of cash drawer.
  • Answer inquiries by phone from students, employees, and the public.
  • Provide training and leadership to student workers and temporary hourly employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
