About The Position

NS2 Mission is looking for a Senior Accountant to become a key member of its accounting team. This role calls for an experienced individual with solid Government accounting knowledge to oversee all accounting functions. The ideal candidate will be energetic, collaborative, and eager to contribute to the company’s continued success. A strong foundation in project cost accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) is highly desirable. This position reports directly to the Controller. This is a primarily remote opportunity reporting to Mission's HQ in Chantilly, VA; with the expectation of occasional on-site, as needed.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with JAMIS or JAMIS Prime accounting software is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with at least 5 years of progressive hands-on accounting and personnel management experience.
  • Experience in Government contract accounting preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and CAS.
  • Understanding of FAR cost principles, government contracting requirements, cost accounting, and job costing.
  • Excellent judgment, leadership, and objectivity to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with customers, Government auditors, and internal teams.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet critical deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • ADP payroll experience is advantageous.
  • CPA certification or active CPA candidacy is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Controller with the month-end close process, including general ledger account reconciliations, journal entries, indirect cost calculations, revenue reconciliations, and other accounting activities.
  • Manage and ensure a smooth financial close process with timely financial analysis and reporting to senior management.
  • Oversee payroll preparation and reconciliation of benefits and deductions.
  • Set up new contracts and maintain contract modifications accurately in the accounting system.
  • Generate and issue invoices to customers, troubleshoot billing issues, and collaborate with program managers for resolution.
  • Review and process subcontractor timecards.
  • Monitor daily cash flow needs and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Support external financial audits and tax compliance requirements.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure sound accounting practices and financial operations.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual incurred cost submissions.
  • Provide financial guidance and insights to managers and departments as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve processes, coordinating with relevant teams for cross-functional efficiencies.
