Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting. This role will play a key part in month-end close, debt and interest accounting, cash reconciliations, and multi-state sales and use tax compliance. The ideal candidate is hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and brings advanced Excel expertise and strong QuickBooks experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized company.
  • Strong experience with month-ends close, debt and interest accounting, and cash reconciliations.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-state sales and use tax.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas).
  • QuickBooks proficiency required.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, variance analyses, and internal financial reports.
  • Maintain detailed schedules for company debt, including loans, lines of credit, and other financing arrangements.
  • Record and reconcile interest expense, amortization, and principal activity.
  • Perform cash reconciliations, monitor cash balances, and support cash flow reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and file sales and use tax returns across multiple states.
  • Monitor nexus issues, exemption certificates, and compliance requirements.
  • Respond to tax notices and support audits when necessary.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
  • Investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Utilize QuickBooks for daily accounting activities and reporting.
  • Leverage advanced Excel skills to build and maintain schedules, models, and analyses (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support operational and financial accuracy.
  • Assist with audits, process improvements, and documentation of internal controls.
  • Assist with annual audits, preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and contribute to process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and construction-specific financial standards.
