About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a mass timber manufacturing facility by overseeing accounting functions related to production, inventory, cost accounting, and financial reporting. This role ensures accurate financial data, compliance with accounting standards, and provides financial insights to support operational decision-making within the manufacturing environment. The Senior Accountant works closely with production leadership, procurement, and plant management to ensure accurate cost tracking, inventory valuation, and financial performance reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience with cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Experience in wood products, construction materials, or manufacturing environments preferred.
  • ERP systems experience (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience with manufacturing costing systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate financial data into operational insights.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • CPA or CMA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing processes including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and analyze standard costs for mass timber products including glulam, CLT panels, and other engineered wood products.
  • Analyze production variances including labor efficiency, material yield, and overhead absorption.
  • Support bill of materials (BOM) costing and product cost updates.
  • Partner with operations to understand and explain cost fluctuations.
  • Oversee inventory accounting including raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Conduct and support cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Reconcile inventory discrepancies and ensure proper valuation.
  • Partner with plant leadership to provide financial insights on production efficiency, waste and yield, labor utilization, and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Assist with capital expenditure tracking and asset capitalization.
  • Maintain strong internal controls related to inventory, purchasing, and financial reporting.
  • Assist with external audits and internal audits.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and financial forecasting.
  • Monitor plant financial performance against budgets.
  • Prepare financial analysis and management reports.
