Semiconductor Trap Fabrication Scientist - 1118

Quantinuum•Brooklyn Park, MN
•$147,000 - $197,000

About The Position

Quantinuum is seeking an experienced Semiconductor Trap Fabrication Scientist to develop highly scaled ion traps for its quantum computers. The role may be based at one of the company’s sites in Minneapolis, Minnesota, or at a supplier site in Malta, New York. The position involves participating in the full development and manufacturing lifecycle of microfabricated ion traps, including design, fabrication, packaging, and characterization, with a focus on trap features and components integrated with photonics. The scientist will work with an integrated team and external partners to translate system requirements into functional hardware and contribute to long-range planning for future trap designs and processes. This is a full-time Quantinuum employee position. Applicants for safety-sensitive placements must submit to a pre-employment drug test.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum.
  • Experience with chip-scale photonics or integrated optics/waveguides.
  • At least 3 years of experience in MEMS or IC fabrication; PhD or Master’s study is inclusive of this experience requirement.
  • Must be a U.S. Person for contractual reasons; the posting defines this as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or a worker granted asylum or refugee status.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply physics and materials expertise to practical device designs.
  • Experience interfacing with a semiconductor foundry.
  • Relevant experience with process integration in a microfabrication manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant work experience in a microfabrication development environment.
  • Experience with a wide range of semiconductor/MEMS processes and processing tools, including layout, thin-film deposition, additive and subtractive patterning, photolithography, deep reactive ion etching, and process integration.
  • Knowledge of on-chip photonics, wafer fabrication, and fiber-to-chip coupling.
  • Experience with finite element modeling of MEMS-like structures, including mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, optical, and multiphysics modeling.
  • Experience with 2.5D/3D semiconductor packaging.
  • Experience working in an R&D environment.
  • Published results within the candidate’s field of research.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Results-oriented, able to work with little supervision, and consistently takes initiative despite competing priorities.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
