About The Position

As a Selector, you will properly, efficiently, and accurately pick product to build neat, accurate pallets for BJ’s clubs. Perishable distribution centers are temperature-controlled, with conditions ranging from 30 degrees in the cooler to -20 degrees in the freezer. Selectors typically lift between 50 and 100 pounds and operate powered equipment such as forklifts and reach trucks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to handle and prioritize requests from multiple sources.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Basic math skills to ensure proper heights and counts and verify pallet ID numbers.
• Ability to follow directions using a headset selection system, such as VoCollect.
• Ability to accommodate flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet customer needs.
• Ability to independently lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and squat frequently to continually in a refrigerated warehouse environment.
• Ability to grasp, reach, push, or pull items such as product boxes or a hand truck frequently.
• Ability to build pallets up to 6 feet tall with case weights up to 50 pounds.
• Endurance for continuous, fast-paced work.
• Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures, including freezing conditions as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Ability to work while wearing appropriate job-related personal protective equipment.
• Ability to utilize job equipment safely and accurately after training.

Nice To Haves

• College coursework, continuing technical education, or comparable business experience.
• Warehouse experience.
• Experience operating material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Select damage-free product accurately and efficiently, building pallets neatly according to customer specifications, with labels facing out and arrows facing up.
• Verify products against pick tickets and case labels, and submit complete, legible, accurate paperwork.
• Maintain productivity at the 100% standard and accuracy at the 99.9% standard.
• Check pallet condition and exchange pallets when needed.
• Promptly report damage and inventory discrepancies to a supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and repair of dock and facility areas.
• Help ensure pallets are wrapped and stacked for safe transport to storage.
• Safely operate appropriate material handling equipment after training.
• Maintain food safety, housekeeping, and other applicable standards.
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
