About The Position

The SEIT (System Engineering Integration & Test) Hardware Engineering Lead provides technical leadership across Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, connecting functional expertise with system integration, verification, and test execution across the Power Systems, Acoustics and Imaging Systems, and Integrated Systems and Encryption divisions. The role leads the Maritime technical approach to mechanical and electrical engineering design, integration, verification, and test, improving how hardware is designed, integrated, verified, and sustained for mission-critical products. This highly visible position works with engineers, program teams, Chief Engineers, senior leaders, Maritime SEIT, functional engineering leaders, Division Chief Engineers, and Program Management. It establishes practical, repeatable engineering approaches across divisions while allowing flexibility for individual programs and product lines. The role identifies systemic technical risks, drives root-cause resolution, and strengthens upfront engineering rigor to reduce rework, integration issues, and test delays. It has no direct reports and achieves results through technical credibility, collaboration, influence, and disciplined engineering leadership in a matrixed organization. The position follows a 9/80 schedule: employees work nine out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, and have every other Friday off. Travel of up to 25% is required to support programs and teams at Maritime locations. The role requires the ability to obtain and maintain required U.S. Government security clearances; an active Secret clearance is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline and at least 12 years of prior related experience; or a graduate degree and at least 10 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 16 years of prior related experience.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, hardware systems engineering, integration and test, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or significantly influencing cross-functional engineering efforts in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience with hardware product development from requirements definition through design, integration, verification, qualification, production, and sustainment.
  • Experience resolving complex technical issues involving mechanical, electrical, and system interfaces.
  • Experience with engineering lifecycle processes, technical reviews, risk management, requirements traceability, verification planning, and configuration management.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills for technical and executive audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required U.S. Government security clearances.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through technical expertise, influence decisions across organizational boundaries, and align experienced engineers around a common hardware engineering approach.
  • Ability to connect mechanical and electrical engineering decisions to system performance, integration, verification, manufacturing, sustainment, and customer outcomes.
  • Commitment to disciplined requirements management, design reviews, interface control, verification planning, root-cause analysis, and risk management.
  • Experience identifying recurring engineering challenges and establishing practical processes, tools, standards, or metrics that improve execution across multiple teams or programs.
  • Ability to build trusted partnerships, communicate directly, surface issues early, and drive ownership through resolution without direct reporting authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Experience spanning both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, safety-critical, defense, aerospace, maritime, secure communications, or other highly regulated products.
  • Experience with environmental qualification, EMI/EMC, reliability, thermal analysis, structural analysis, power systems, embedded hardware, or hardware/software integration.
  • Experience with digital engineering, model-based systems engineering, product lifecycle management, simulation, automated test, or engineering toolchain modernization.
  • Experience supporting proposals, cost estimates, basis-of-estimate development, program startup, and technical planning.
  • Experience developing engineering standards, common tools, technical governance, or process-improvement initiatives across multiple programs or business areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for mechanical and electrical engineering design, integration, verification, validation, and test across Maritime programs.
  • Develop and improve common hardware engineering processes, methods, standards, tools, and metrics across the Power Systems, Acoustics and Imaging Systems, and Integrated Systems and Encryption divisions.
  • Partner with Maritime SEIT and program teams to define and review hardware design strategies, technical baselines, and readiness criteria.
  • Evaluate cross-program hardware engineering performance, identify systemic risks and capability gaps, and lead actions to improve quality, predictability, and first-time-right execution.
  • Apply mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge to resolve complex system-level issues involving interfaces, environmental requirements, reliability, producibility, manufacturability, testability, and lifecycle support.
  • Lead technical reviews and influence design decisions to ensure hardware solutions meet customer requirements, safety, mission assurance, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Support proposal, capture, program startup, and execution-planning activities, including hardware engineering scope definition, technical risk assessment, staffing inputs, cost estimates, and basis-of-estimate development.
  • Coach and mentor hardware engineering technical leaders and teams, sharing best practices and strengthening technical depth across the Maritime organization.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, trade studies, recommendations, and improvement opportunities to engineering leadership, program leadership, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Build partnerships, communicate directly, surface issues early, and drive ownership through resolution without direct reporting authority.
  • Travel up to 25% to support programs and teams at Maritime locations.
