About The Position

Security Officer 1 (Unarmed Security) helps maintain a safe and secure environment for employees, patients, physicians, students, vendors, and visitors by monitoring and patrolling facilities. The officer provides customer service and assistance with disruptive incidents, emergency services, personal protection, and traffic and parking control. Other related duties may be assigned. The role requires responding to incidents and emergencies, enforcing access and parking policies, preparing incident documentation, and providing safety escorts. The officer must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job, wear required personal protective equipment and an issued Kevlar vest, and communicate effectively with staff and the public.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two to three years of experience in a security role, law enforcement, or military background.
Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate state licenses and certifications.
Obtain Level II Noncommissioned Security Officer certification with the Texas Commission on Private Security within 60 days of hire.
Maintain a valid state driver’s license.
Have active healthcare-provider Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into the unit.
Obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification within 60 days of employment or transfer into the department.
Ability to perform continuous physical exertion, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, standing and walking for extended periods, and carrying people in emergencies; must meet all physical requirements of the job.
Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment, including masks, gowns, and security-related equipment, as required.
Ability to pass pre-employment and annual background checks.
Effective written and oral communication skills, including proper grammar and spelling for report writing.
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to deal professionally with all levels of personnel and the public.
Ability to use initiative and independent judgment.
Ability to prepare written reports frequently and provide quality customer service.
Ability to handle common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently.
Must wear an issued Kevlar vest under the uniform shirt.

Responsibilities

Protect life, property, information, and reputation through situational awareness, facility monitoring, access verification, and directions to authorized areas.
Evaluate and respond to events and incidents promptly in accordance with System policies.
Provide customer service to staff, patients, visitors, and physicians.
Respond to emergencies and unusual situations, including disturbances, disruptive individuals, fires, and medical emergencies; restrain agitated patients when required and in accordance with applicable policies.
Prepare and submit incident documentation according to security and facility policies and procedures.
Maintain knowledge of security orders and relevant regulatory requirements.
Control pedestrian and vehicle traffic when necessary.
Enforce facility access-control policies and parking regulations.
Provide safety escorts and assistance to employees, patients, and visitors.
Patrol facilities on foot and/or by vehicle to detect or prevent illegal or unauthorized activities.
