About The Position

Marriott Syracuse Downtown is seeking an On-Call Security Officer to perform protective and enforcement functions courteously and with restraint while responding to emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances, and threats to life or property. The role helps maintain a safe and secure environment and supports Crescent Hotels & Resorts and Marriott brand standards.

The officer spends most of the shift patrolling the hotel on foot, including its interior and perimeter, and observes security monitors for unusual activity. The role responds to guest and associate needs, security calls, alarms, and emergency conditions; reports concerns to the supervisor on duty; and helps maintain order and safe work practices. Officers must learn the property’s layout and life-safety systems and be able to perform physically demanding duties, including walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and working in extreme temperatures.

Shifts vary, with flexibility to work overnight. Weekend availability is required, and the position may require holiday work. A current New York State Security Guard License is required within the first 30 days of employment, or the ability to renew or obtain the required certification within that period.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of the building layout and function rooms, and some knowledge of the city and surrounding areas.

• Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and walk significant distances between and within buildings on the property.
• Ability to grasp, lift, carry, or otherwise move goods weighing up to 150 lbs, with sufficient manual dexterity.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders rapidly and perform duties within extreme temperature ranges.
• Current New York State Security Guard License, or ability to renew or obtain the required certification within the first 30 days of employment.
• Availability to work weekends and holidays; shifts vary and may include overnight work.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the hotel’s interior and perimeter on foot, observing and identifying security and safety risks or undesirable conditions.
• Maintain order in the hotel, address guest welfare concerns, and assist with door lock problems.
• Coordinate prompt responses to emergencies, including fires, safety hazards, and threats to life or property.
• Address undesired conduct and potential violations of hotel policy as needed to protect guests, associates, patrons, and property.
• Watch for suspicious persons entering, exiting, or loitering around the building, and conduct walkthrough observations of the hotel.
• Answer security telephone and safety hotline calls and respond according to priority.
• Monitor security cameras and report suspicious activity and alarms to the supervisor on duty by radio.
• Memorize and monitor the property’s life-safety systems, including building layout, alarm pull stations, fire extinguisher locations, and sprinklers.
• Promote safe work practices and comply with attendance rules.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
